It's just occurred to me that he might not actually want to be Newcastle's manager. Imagine if the fans turned on him like they turned on Robson. Denis Smith won't come and manage us because he says he couldn't bear to fail the club, so maybe Shearer won't see it as a good option after all.

Make no mistake. Shearer wants that job.

You can tell he wants the job, but can you imagine if he fails?
The prodigal son failing. That would be messy!

He didnt win many trophies (if any???) as a player, so im sure he will want to win at least one with newcastle as manager !

One reason ther Newcastle job is still regarded as a real prize is that the first manager to win a trophy will have God like status forever and a job for life.
Thing is if it went wrong he'd be shattered.

I sympathise with Allardyce there. They nhave whats required to be stable mid table team but they see themselves as a top four club and should be up there. Fair enough but there is so much rong with that team it'd take two years to get anywhere near that level.

Nobody could bring success to Newcastle overnight, which is what the fans want. As much as I don't like Fat Sam, he needs time to properly build a side.
What are Shearer's credentials for the job anyway? He has no experience, and doesn't come across as in any way insightful or intelligent in his inane mutterings on MOTD.

Playing and managing are two different jobs altogether. He was a indeed a great ploayer and a hero to the Geordies but he'll have to deal with circumstances he's never considered before.

Unlike Denis, Shearer isn't very bright, so I'm not sure that he's actually got the mental capacity to be able to think that.

what credentials does Shearer have to be a top flight manager?
none @ all as far as I can see. He should do what Paul Ince has done & earn some credibility in division 4 first.
