As at Barnsley and at Ashton Gate in October for that matter there was a cash turnstyle open for Stokies at Plymouth yesterday.
However why is it such a secret? Why is this information not in the sentinel or on the official site? Why also if you actually ring the club and ask if you can pay on the day are you told that you must have a ticket bought in advance?
Our club are treating us with contempt, and it is absolutely ridiculous that our club continues with its policy of inconveniencing the majority of its supporters every away game no matter how far away from Stoke or how low the demand for tickets or how low the potential for trouble.
Its high time that you started to treat your customers with more respect Stoke!

Whilst agree more could be done to let people know about cash turnstiles on saturday at Plymouth how long do people need to buy a ticket for an away game, they are normally on sale at least 3 to 4 weeks in advance and can easily be purchased by us supporters by phone and sent to you mostly next day delivery,I know its christmas and the post is all over the place but this just seems to be another excuse to have ago at the club again at a time when everything is going in the right direction.

but still why not say you can pay on the day? if you have a ticket then you have to go whereas if you can pay on the day you can make your mind up in the morning of the match, especially somewhere like plymouth. if you dont live near the brit it can be a arse going down and getting a ticket when you can just pay on a turnstyle

Fingers is your life so ordered that everything is planned with military precision and you make no spur of the moment decisions?
There are many people for whom life isn't quite like that , thank god!

Not sure what the score was at Barnsley but we went on a tour of the ground and we met their chairman before kick off. I mentioned to him about the pay on the day thing and he said it was definitelyNOT the case and there was no pay on the day tunstile!
I'm not sure how people did pay on the day there but one thing for sure is it wouldn't have been official cos I heard it straight from the horses mouth!

Not at all Mick just love watching Stoke home and away with a couple of mates. You can even pay for your ticket on the morning of the game and have it taken to the away ticket office and pick it up when you arrive which i have done on a few occasions thats not miltary precision.

Its all bollox mate. There WAS a cash turstile yesterday, just as there often is and people were using it, not many though admittedly because OFFICIALLY it doesn't exist and so the only people likely to use it are people who live close to the away ground, are unaware of our police state scheme and presume that they will be able to pay on the gate.

Fingers, with all due respect mate that rigmarol should not be necessary for games such as yesterday. If you want to buy a ticket in advance then fine but as Deano says that should not preclude being able to pay on the gate either.
It is all a charade, and a completely unneccesary and inconvenient one at that and ensures our away support for EVERY game is lower than it would be if some common sense was applied.

Mick, was it with or without an ID card?

Post by BristolMick on Dec 30, 2007 20:03:16 GMT
There is a group of us that go together usually, so we synchronise watches and diaries and agree weeks in advance which games we are likely to go to with the last chance to make a spur of the moment decision being the home game prior to the away game in question. We then buy tickets at said home game.
Sometimes we might want to change our minds after this deadline and actually go to a game but it is too much hassle to do so, so we dont. My mates who support Rovers and City dont have such ridiculous restrictions put on them and nor do most football supporters who follow a club that rareley sells out its allocation for away games!
I really dont know why we are so accepting of the scheme in its current state for ALL away matches because it is harming our support!

Mick, was it with or without an ID card? I was having a chat with the stewards outside the turnstile yesterday and they said that basically its up to Plymouth who they let in to their ground. However they will stop everyone and ask for ID and for the cash turnstyle that ID need not necessarily be an official ID card. I did not press the point but I presumed from the tone of our conversation that if an individual could not produce such ID they would take a view, so to speak, and ultimately they did not necessarily have the power to refuse admission because it is up to the home club. Most Stoke away games this season have been stewarded by our own people and you tend to build up a relationship with them so i am sure they would turn a blind eye now again and add people to the guest list on occasions.

Maybe the club is actually trying to relax the ID system...albeit on the "QT" to see if, in the longer term, we can do away with it or at least find a more reasonable solution. That being the case I can see why they wouldn't want too much publicity too soon...further relapses into violence would just make it nigh on impossible to ever scrap the scheme.

I hope that you are right but how can it be tested unless people know that you can pay on the day? I think that it is more likely that the home club are simply deciding to have a cash turnstyle because they know that we are a long way short of selling out our given allocation and are happy for Stokies to pay on the day. We are being let down by our own club because they are neglecting to tell us this and wish to carry on with the pretence that the draconian scheme is rigidly in force when in truth they no longer enjoy support from the opposition clubs who want to maximise their revenues. You're probably right but what is the solution? Relax the system, advertise it...see a riot and then....? There will be plenty of Police Forces around the country willing to "do a Derby" on us. Unless you reckon the hooligans have moved on now? We can always hope

Unless you reckon the hooligans have moved on now? We can always hope I think that the scheme that we have should simply be enforced with a large measure of common sense. It would only apply in its full highly restrictive form for high risk games. Other games would be ID but pay on the gate and maybe games like Scunthorpe away on a Tuesday night and yesterday would be no restrictions whatsoever and pay on the gate. That way the club would have the support of most of the fans and also the home clubs who would then be more supportive of Stoke's stance. BM

Its now become a bit of a shoddy scam.
If the club were really that concerned about i.d. cards, they should make it a requirement of every Stoke supporter- for all matches including home games . Do they think that all the hooligans just wait for away matches?
Why don't we really set the trend by making it a requirement of every away teams fans visiting the Brit to have an i.d. card purchased from us before entry- thus keeping it fare of course, by allowing every fan in the country to benefit from the merits of the scheme?
(Is the list of card holders given to the clubs we are playing..who has access to the list of names ,does the club use the same data in any other way and is the protection system the same as the Governments? Who audits the use and abuse? of this system. Is it a profit making scheme or is all the money raised used to administer the scheme. Perhaps if every card holder wrote in under the data protection act for some answers?).
Do the members of the board and their families have paid up supporters cards? Does Mr.Pulis or Mr.Coates carry one? Can they claim tax allowances on theirs if so?
In common with others, if I cannot gain entry with the Stoke fans at away matches (yes the stewards do their job) I will go and pay to sit with our opponents fans. Mixing freely, just how it used to be !
Quite a pity really because when my daughters do condescend to attend a match with me it is often with the wrong fans.
As stated many times...why are Stoke supporters being demonised ,when crowd trouble can occur at any club...which is then dealt with by the due process of the law. Penalizing the vast majority of supporters and those on low income ( and I am only referring to myself here....based on the governments criteria of course), when it is neither law nor common practice is absurd .

As the club know there are a number of people who will pick and choose their games this i.d card scheme is persevered with ONLY to make sure it is as hard as possible for those who go on the spur of the moment to go to away games so they go to the home games instead. After all, WHY? exactly do we have only an AWAY card? Do these people behave themselves at home and turn into lunatics away?
It is a pity that the scheme is not challenged by more away clubs it is them who are suffering the most from this cynical exercise.

Friday night i mentioned to my missus that i was toying with going but decided not to because of the distance. She mentioned about us going and making a weekend of it, I then told her it was too late because a ticket was needed and it was too late to get one. This for me would have been a spur of the moment thing , Whats annoying is not being allowed to do it. Sometimes people just get up in a morning and decide wether to go or not, Whats wrong with that. Its about time the club gave us these options.

We weren't even asked to show our ID cards (which was a bit of a relief as some fool had forgotten his sons plastic).
Like Mick I was astonished to see a cash turnstile available.
It removes any lingering doubt that it is our very own club and more pointedly our own none action Chief Executive who are dragging out the issue to the limits of its draconian power.
I also note the promised reforms that the CE and the Fans Forum mumbled about when their useless impotence was raised in the fanzine has turned out to be nothing more than a distracting fart.
If the Fans Forum cannot bring any influence to bare on this matter, why not just say so instead of the pretence we got a couple of months or so back?
