For our first, Fuller took a swift kick in the face from the defender who cleared it, but this was done as he cleared it with no malice. As for their penalty, I'm not entirely sure it was a penalty, it was a very jammy decision. Even jammier was the placement...an inch or two to the left and Hoult would have tipped it around the post instead of it hitting him square in the forearm. Shawcross didn't score, it was an own goal. For their second, Cort was at fault. He followed the scorer in, but simply didn't jump, giving the guy a free header. We have absolutely got to stop giving away goals in the 6 yards box. Plymouth, Barnsley, Blackpool, West Brom and probably a few more if my memory was up to it. Finally, the Hoult incident. There were more defenders around than I thought and Hoult didn't actually seem to catch him from the given angle, but I suspect that another angle would show that he did.

Mystical I actually thought that Hoult was unfairly blamed for the second goal. We have 2 big centre halves who should easily deal with them tyoes of ball. I can not see Hoult shouting for that one. As for the sending off he saved a certain goal I am sure.

Yeah. I couldn't see any of the indecisiveness that Radio Stoke were going on about, he chose to stay on his line and stuck to that. He had no chance with the header and Cort should have done something.

If we had last seasons defence we would probably be top of the table. Pulis cannot be pleased with the amount of goals we are leaking maybe thats the part of the team he will look to strenghten in the window?
Cort is not as good as Higginbottom, Pugh is a winger being played out of position, and Wilkinson has plenty of strength and guts but is prone to stupid mistakes and not that great a footballer.

In theory though Mick there were 3 centre halves in the box when that second goal went in and that is not good enough from a side that is supposed to be built on its defensive strengths. Someone is not doing their job and its down to Mr P to sort it and qucik.

Cort was ball watching for the second goal, but i just can't see how shawcross showed intent when he was lying on the ground as the ball struck him on the hand.We were bloody unlucky to concede that penalty.

True enough Potters but I think the ref had to reedem something for not taking action against Fuller.

As for the sending off he saved a certain goal I am sure. I have to disagree about that. Any crossed ball three yards from the goal line is keeper territory shirley? Certainly our towering defenders should have done better but a goalkeeper has to command things that close to the net. The withering look he got from some of his team mates suggest they felt the same. He stood there as a spectator. A puched clearance was the minimum requirement of a decent keeper in those circumstances.

Pugh is a winger being played out of position.
how? he is quality at left back and when in left midfield he seemed unable to beat his man. he is better at overlapping and has a great cross on him.

Having been seriously ill for both the Barnsley and Plymouth games, I actually watched both games without getting embroiled in the atmosphere of it all, and despite the individual mistakes, my observations are that many of our defensive frailties stem from the fact that our giant centre half cannot win a physical battle against his opponent.
For me, the last two games have seen Cort's physical frailty exposed dramatically by very average players in the form of Macken and Easter, and it has allowed the opposition to keep us under pressure.
He was lost for Plymouth's equaliser yesterday, and was generally poor throughout.
We are doing great, and I will take a point out of what was a disappointing overall performance, but I remain ever so slightly concerned that we are about to spend 1.6m (1.1 if Clint goes to Palace) on a bloke, who despite being superb in the opposition box, is less effective when asked to meet the physical demands of doing his own job.
