the maure are in my good books presently -after all, theyve given us a few crumbs off their table by letting us keep Shawcross for the remainder of the season - Good chance we could sign him in the summer too -(depending upon how we collectively do).

Getting a Peno for diving is a skill in itself! The timing, the arch of the back, the squeal. All beautiful.

For me the major reason that this continues to soil the game, is that referees and the FA allow players at top clubs to get away with it. The behavior of a few then becomes mimicked throughout the league pyramid, and then finds its way onto park football and kids pitches.
The "big four" in this country hold far too much power, and the FA and referees appear to be scared of stamping down on the cheating that goes on. Fabregas' reaction to Arteta's arm on Saturday was a disgrace. It was a flat arm, not an elbow, and the contact was minor, yet he went down as though Hatton had walloped him. Sadly these kind of incidents go on week in week out.
It'll only change if the FA start viewing games retrospectively on video, and banning players / docking clubs points. If Fergie / Wenger thought that the club would lose points for their players rolling around like extras on the beach-scene in Saving Private Ryan, they'd soon put a stop to it.

Arteta straight red for fending Fabregas off, which what Fabregas was trying to do to Arteta! Bendtner yellow card for a tackle which could have broken Johnsons leg.Great refereeing!

The think that annoys me re Ronaldo - agree above he is a fantastic player- is that when he is cleanly tacked he appeals for a free kick and makes a meal of it
For me any player diving -if inside the area or not should get a yellow

TO be fair to referees, it can sometimes be difficult to judge whether a player has dived or not if they dived "well". In my opinion (and I've seen other people share this opinion), there should be an automatic three match ban for anyone who has been PROVEN to have dived by a video panel after the match - the ban is increased if they dived more than once in the match - and it should be even more severe if it decides the outcome of a game (e.g. last minute penalty). I'm fairly sure that would cut down on the numbers of players diving. Unfortunately, they would still gain an advantage in the game, but the promise of swift and severe retribution would make them think twice about doing it.

I think Joe Cole wins the award for making a meal of it , in fact i would say he takes all the honours that are associated with diving .The fact Cole doesn't wear a red shirt which usually works against you picking up diving awards because of blinkered opinions is some achievement by Cole in my eyes.
