I'm disappointed he has not shed the pounds under a Pulis training regime (then again, he is only 13st 7lb according to the official website - fuller is 12st 5lb!! ) Surely given that Sidibe is all but going to the ACN this is a fantastic opportunity for the big man to shine - will he do it or has he had too much turkey & chocolate?

Its a great chance for him. But if he isn't fully fit he won't get a starting place. Its largely down to him.

Providing we get a similar calibre player as last season, and we adapt our style accordingly, I'm confident he'll prove an asset in the second half - I feel he will be critical to our chances, as having one scoring striker is not a realistic way to top flight football......and Parkin is an 'ox in the box', who given the service that suits him, will get goals in my opinion.

no, dont think he'll ever be more than bit part. need to sign an hard working, goal scoring strong and powerful target man - like Zamora, but i cant see him coming for less than £2 million and a massive wage.

Parkin proved last season that when started with fuller he can bang in the goals, he cant be any worse than sidibe.

After watching Parkin last season, and seeing the good stuff he put in, plus his goals, I was quite impressed with what I saw. I don't doubt he has the ability to become a decent player. I remember when Big John Ritchie first joined us from Kettering, and believe me, he was the original DONKEY, not obviously possessing a fraction of Parkins ability. With patient Waddo coaching, he turned out to be a more than decent player, a God actually, as well as our most prolific scorer. I'm not suggesting that Parkin could emulate Big John in the annals of SCFC, neither IMHO could Fuller, but use him wisely, and I think we'll get a good return.

I think Parkin is a very good player, and I think he has shed the pounds but is a naturaly 'big bloke' And take too much weight off him and he will lose a big aspect of his game.
The games he has played this year have not been in his prefered position, he has been asked to play the Mama role which see's him just lost out there. He is not and will never be a target man, and needs to play in Fullers position (ie furthest forward) if we are to see the best from him. I may be wrong but did he not score his goals last season playing with Mama?
I'm not for a second saying play him instead of Fuller, but he isn't a taget man and shouldn't be asked to play there.

I keep on believing he's going to come good but here's the difference, last season he was getting service from a midfield, ok not ball to feet all the time but enough of the time. He's really trying to throw himself into the game we've been playing so far this season, and unlike others on here I'm not faulting his commitment but he's not that versatile and we're not playing the game to get the best out of him yet. So I'd say our best chance of Beast coming good will come after the January sales, fingers crossed.

No player will ever do himself justice unless 100% fit. And thats that. He clearly has some great touch and has the ability to add a new dimension to our play. But if he isn't fit enough, and fit enough is 100%, he won't fulfill his potential. So he'll only ever be a stopgap sub type of presence for us.

He needs to play and given a run like Sidibe gets but he gets away with doing fuck all and not scoring to help Parkin get fit, confident, appreciated more and his ability will shine through like the glimpses we saw last season with Fuller.
