Hi Folks,
Can anyone remember the game against Barnsley, in the FA Cup, late 80s. It was a reply which we lost 2-1.
We took a large following for the game and for some reason, there was a cock-up at the turnstiles that caused the waiting Stoke supporters to pack in very tightly between the stand and a huge brick wall, which stretched back to where the coaches were parked. We must have been very close to something serious happening that night and I don't mean winning the game.
Is Oakwell still a death trap?

It was 89 or 90 as fucking useless twat Bamber was playing
bloody David Currie did us that night.
20000+ @ Oakwell, about 2000 of which were in seats.marvelous. - 8000 Stokies. 'proper' replay about 3 days after the 1st game (3.3 & Shaw had a perfectly good winning goal disallowed).
If the away end had been split by fencing a la Leppings lane @ Hillsboro' there would have been serious problems & quite probably deaths.
non-existent safety culture & piss poor policing from South Yorks finest.

South Yorkshire Police obviously learned a lot that night.

The home game 3-3 draw was one of the most exciting games i'd ever been to as a youngster, and the return leg at Barnsley scared the shit out of me as i was moving on the terraces and my feet weren't touching the floor it was that full!!!
