I think it will take about 85 points this season to get automatic promotion, that leaves us another 44 points to get in 22 games. Those games are equally split 11 at home and 11 away. 13 wins and a few draws should do it.

On that basis I feel confident. Mark, If I am not mistaken, your calculation equates to matching the first half of the season plus a couple (say three) extra wins. Surely that is achievable with the signing of Diao & others (hopefully).

No one has or I think will run away with the league this year, Everyone is taking points off everyone so we might be looking at the lowest amount of points to gain automatic promotion this season. 85 points is a realistic target for us to gain automatic promotion.

What if Fuller gets injured/suspended?
calm down everyone.
well done Stoke, well done TP but lets not get too carried away. not saying we cant do it or that we wont do it but lets keep our heads.
bound to be a bad spell @ some point - the key is (unlike last year) to get out of it asap.Cool heads in the stands will help -.

Agreed we must not get too carried away, however, there is no harm comparing the first half of the season with what is required in the second (assuming 85 points will get a top two spot). I hate maths (hopeless at it), however, the following is, perhaps, interesting;-
* 1.70 pts ave per game up to now. * 1.43 pts for the first 16 games (when we were not too happy) * 2.25 pts for the current unbeaten run. * 2.00 pts for Mark's projected target for the remaining 22 games
Not sure what the above means, however, if the present team carry on as they have done in the past few weeks we should be home & dry - easy as that!!!
Seriously, I will only get carried away & be very optimistic if, & only if, the squad is strengthened. In my opinion we may, surprisingly, have the squad to be in or around the play off spots but not to maintain a challenge for automatic promotion. Two/three signings, in addition to what we have got, will give us a fantastic opportunity for promotion.

It could be a tight finish....possibly a good omen:
I think I am correct to say that the last 2 times we have got promotion to the top flight no one has run away with the league and it has gone right to the wire.

Totally agree Shelton. All of our players are giving us 110% every game but if you look at the west brom game at half time they brought Philips and Miller on, how could Pulis change things if we were losing 2-0 at the Hawthorns? 3 or 4 good signings in january is a must but there is no one in this league we have to fear.
