The valve is where you pump it up, like. First I ever heard of kicking the ball there was Roberto Carlos when he did that 2 way swerve free kick against France in the late 90's. Loads of players do it i think, they're always inspecting the ball before free kicks, not sure how the physics of it works mind.

To impart a swerve the ball must spin. Clockwise for right swerve and vice versa. The football will be slightly heavier around inflation valve so by placing the valve halfway between ground and top of ball will help to impart a faster spin due to centrifugal forces. With practice and by placing the valve at varying height players can vary the speed of the spin and thus the amount of swerve on the ball. It ain't rocket science .......

So he probably doesn't place the valve pointing directly at him but slightly to the right. I reckon that would improve the swerve even more. If you kicked it in the right way it might also help with top spin?

He really detracts from himself with his cheating. It only takes one referee to stand up to him.
However, if someone kerbs this part of his game and if he takes off the make-up, he will be an excellent player.
