tayman i sat behind the bloke who shouted at simmo, and i told him he was right. i couldnt feel sorry for simmo today as he cost us the game, if i went work and dropped 2 big bollocks like he did id be in the office and bollocked. their is no office on that pitch and i thought the slatings he took were right. eustace told him after the second goal what he thought of him and simmo been a mard arse flipped. he now has to pick his chin up and rectify those mistakes, starting at plymouth.

I think we should drop Cort for that backpass v WBA...Or Eustace for his missed passes...Or Delap for the throws that go straight to the keeper...etc.

I don't know how Eustace could moan at Simmo, he's been shite all season. Two new CMs pronto to go with Super Salif.
P.S. Go on Simmo!!! He's saved us more points than he's cost us. One of the top 5 keepers in the league. Chin up, England's Number One.
Also, I don't want Russell "Hunchback of Stoke City" Hoult in goal judging by his performance at Rochdale.

Every keeper makes the odd fuck up.
Simmo isn't a world beater but he's the best keeper we've had at Stoke since Peter Fox, and is a different class to Russell Hoult.

If we can look at this sensibly for a moment, I think we might all be able to agree that there has to be a big question mark over Simmo's head for three of the last four goals we've conceded.
He is an absolutely superb shot-stopper but some of his judgement with crosses is definitely suspect. If we had someone to bring in and just rest him for a couple of games then I'd say that might be a good idea.
Alas, the days of Ed De Goey on the bench are gone and all we have now is Russell Hoult. Having seen his display earlier this season at Rochdale I'm not too keen to give Hoult a run in the team.
That being the case, I'd opt to keep Simmo in goal and just hope that he can exorcise his demons before he lets in any more poor goals like two of those which got past him today.

Barney - never mind Liam Lawrence - Barney Rebel, what about Liam Lawrence - Barnsley Rebel!
Kept his cool for the second penno!
But Simmo has had, and will have, much better days

A few weeks ago I mentioned that Simmo was starting to look dodgy and we should bring in another to put on the pressure, to get a better performance out of him. (Boy did I get shot down). Hoult's not the long-term answer. What made me think was the inspired loan signing of young Schmeichel to Cardiff and he pulled off some brilliant saves against Watford. Time for a re-think on the keeper situation, before January.

I think he deserves a few more games. Surely TP will have a word with him after yesterday, maybe that will be enough.
I have wondered if Eustace hadn't barracked him so much after the second he would've come for the third?

I dont doubt Simmo's abilities one bit, he is a class shot stopper, but some times lacks concentration on crosses, or lack of judgment.

All players make mistakes. outfield players often get away with them whilst keepers are more often than not made to pay. Simmo is still one of the top keepers in this division and we should put this one down to experience.

I don't really know why we don't do more work with him on dealing with crosses. Have a game of attack vs defence set pieces or similar. Whenever I've been down to training, they just seem to be telling the goalkeepers how to hit the ball further. Given that we're also one of the best set piece teams in the country, it can't do him any harm having to face us in training whilst also giving our lads a bit extra?

I wonder if the policy of not having a goalkeeping coach with actual goalkeeping experience is a part of the problem.
Goalkeeping would seem to me to be an unique in terms of its technical side. All keepers go through spells where one aspect or another of their game go off the boil and this is where the pro keeper coach steps in.
The coach should be able to analise the technical aspects of the problem and work with the keeper to correct their technique during the weeks training sessions.
This is how I understand it works at all other clubs of our standing, anyway.

Ronnie remains, as he always has been, Assistant Academy Manager with responsibility for the 9 - 16 year age group plus of course the keeper coach for the Academy.
He was relieved of his duties as keeper coach with the pros this summer.

So, Mark, we don't have one then. That won't be doing Simmo or the team any good and should be rectified.
Although Simmo has made a few errors recently, I refuse to knock the lad because he is a good keeper. However, like every other player, he needs to continue to learn from his mistakes. There's no better way of doing that other than by using an experienced specialist coach where they can sit down and work on all aspects of his game together.

The goals we conceded were disappointing, we have to put that right, I think we have scored three times away from home five or six times this season and we are not going to be able to keep doing that.

I can't comment on how effective he is in fairness.
I can say that he has never been a pro footballer and he has never played in goal.
Quite a unique cv for a goalkeepeing coach at a pro football club, I would think.
It is why I am wondering about the flaws Simmo is currently displaying and the corrective actions that a coach normally identifies and implements.

How much would a btter keeper than Simmo cost?
how much money do we have to spend?
yes Simmo has games where he flaps @ everything but as has been pointed out Cort is perhaps a bit quiet - we could do with a noisy bugger in the back 4 somewhere.
In the meantime Stokies should give Simmo some support.

I give him all the support i can when hes in goal at the boothen end, i would never shout shit at him if he has a bad game, just knocks his cofidence.
Just do it on here instead:)
A keeper of Simmo's level would be 2-3m easy.
