I thought it was a fair result and good game, even tho the ref spoiled it.
However, Ryan Shawcross was a utter disgrace after match, he was shouting and waving out to my son and alot of Barnsley supporters in East Stand "Come on" as you would on a night out.
This to me was wanting trouble, now the question to you Stoke supporters is do you accept this behavior?

Personally, no. I'd prefer he didn't. It did sound from Liam Lawrence's interview (Link on here somewhere) that the players felt they took an extreme amount of verbal abuse throughout the game and maybe had a right to give a little back. Lawrence was also struck on the head by a stray coin! So maybe you should be questioning your actions as supporters too

No, professional footballers should be able to rise above the bait. However in his defence he is young and his first season in league football, so will hopefully learn from the experience. The coin throwing is a different matter, that is supporters going too far and the sad yorkie (or sheffield reject which Barnsley folk are) should have his finger and toe nails pulled out one by one

No he shouldn't react.
But your fans shouldn't throw coins at our player because he scored!

I don't know what's happened at the game, could be something or it could be Barnsley fans exaggerating because they're bitter but players should rise above the abuse and just ignore it, if every player reacted to the crowd then we'd see some very disturbing scenes every week, ... if someone threw a coin then the player it strikes should hand it or make it known to the officials then the coin thrower should be identified and banned for life from attending games at all grounds, it could potentially blind someone and end there playing career.

im sure the first thing going through your mind after being hit with a coin would be hang on let me go give this a steward!!! players shouldnt rise above such treatment, they are human beings, players have every right to respond when they get slated with abuse and hit with coins. theyre only human

If Shawcross did make comments or gesticulations to the crowd then he is out of order and I am sure the management team will give him advice on how to cope with crowd abuse in the future. He is only 20 years of age and the atmosphere of competitive football at this standard is relatively new to him.
However I would also have to comment on the behaviour of football supporters. If you own a dog and kept poking the dog with a stick until it attacked you, then you would have to admit that it would be partially your fault for poking the dog in the first place, would you not?

My question to you Sarah is, what was your son and 'alot' of Barnsley supporters doing for young Ryan to respond in the way you've mentioned?
If they were politely applauding him, I guess his response was unacceptable. However if your son and his cohorts were heaping abuse on him, I'm not suprised that he responded in kind.
Just out of interest, how long have you been going to football matches Sarah?

Just from watching the replays of the goals, Barnsley fans were jumping up and down like apes shouting 'come on' as you would on a night out at Lawrence (as well as throwing coins), Shawcross and Fuller. They were, in fact, doing worse. Your judgement of your own fans should be your judgement of our players.
