I really cant see us attracting Routledge. Where did this rumour originally start from?
Great signing if we could get him though.

This rumour never seems to go away does it? I can't see it - mainly because I think he could still get a contract at a Premiership club - but if it is true then I can't wait to see him, would help our chances against Newcastle no end!

Quashie is a more realistic target (different position I know). He's a good solid player and Pulis knows him well.
I know a lot of fans would prefer a more creative midfielder in the middle but lets be realistic, Pulis likes two solid players there. Diao and Quashie would lose very few battles in the middle in this league and are a definite step up in class on Delap and Eustace.
Personally, i'd be very happy if we did sign Quashie.

Yet the rumours about us having agreed a deal for Whelan are just as strong (if not stronger) as those linking us with Quashie? I'd rather have Whelan than Quashie - who is too similar to Diao in my opinion.

I don't think Quashie is the type of midfielder we need though now. If Diao hadn't sigened then I would want him but he is not attacking enough and is more of a defensive player. Whelan for please Tone!

I agree that Whelan would be the better signing. There would probably be a lot more competition for him though and he would be more expensive.
Quashie would still be a good addition for us IMHO.

tinyurl.com/29exr9 9 Oct tinyurl.com/ytjv2b 24 Oct The Routledge story has been doing the rounds in the Mail for months, but mainly talk of a loan deal? He's also been linked with West Brom and Watford recently, and he turned down Celtic last summer.

Talking to a friend who is a journalist on a local radio station in Macc today he said he had heard that Parkin may be going to Macc on loan after New Year, but apparently they are concerned about his weight and fitness or could that be fatness

I bet Pericard stays! Parkin is twice the footballer Pericard is! Size and ability!

Basically, Routledge was linked with us by the Mirror, or something, and ever since then, the rumour has been 'milling around'. I don't there is much substance to it at all, in all honesty.

Routledge turned down a loan move in the summer because he didn't want to leave London.
I see no reason why that should change come January.

Whilst a Routledge fits the requirement of an attacking midfield dynamo,(who could also play down the left) does he fit our managers predilection for 6 footers?
There were lots of rumours (nearly 4 years ago now!),that Tony Pulis was linked to a loan bid for Zamora. If the guy needs to be offloaded by West Ham (and he seems to have a nice big/long contract) he certainly ticks some of our managers boxes.
Its an interesting situation for our manager, with one eye perhaps on where the club could be next season.
I am sure however that the management at present will focus on the here and now ,rather than what might be( even Mystic Meg could not predict her own National Lottery numbers). Considering the present team appears to be able to "do over" any other in this league I am sure Mr.Coates will be feeling justified in having long pockets and short arms(-proving that throwing money around is not always necessary to guarantee a winning team). Do we need to tinker with the formula?
All of a sudden , an unfashionable Stoke, on the cusp of greater things, may now be rather more desirable for certain players. Negotiations with players, their agents/clubs and the man who has the purse strings at Stoke could be much easier for our "long suffering" manager this winter.
No matter how negotiations go....
Well done Tony Pulis despite being kicked in the teeth once by this club you have come back and given us much hope for a prosperous New Year!

My missus was at midnight mass last night with Sheila, Wayne's mum......and forgot to ask if he was coming. Anyway, she's around for dinner on Sunday, Wayne may come too, not sure, anyhow I'll ask then and get a definitive answer.
