Radio Joke first with news ... blimey ...
See official site - links don't work if we post 'em
"...
The Stadium will continue to be known as the Britannia Stadium and guarantees will be put in place to secure its future as a football stadium.
Scholes added: "It is our intention to continue to operate the stadium for the benefit of the football club and community at large. With ownership in the club's hands we can now focus on ways of maximising revenue all year round. It will enable the Club to benefit directly from non football business opportunities such as concerts, events and conference and banqueting. This can only benefit the football club in the long term.
"It was important for the long term future of Stoke City that the football club and the Stadium came under single ownership. This is a major development for the Club and a clear statement of Peter Coates' ambitions to develop all aspects of the club."
I need a bit of a careful read

Fantastic news. Things for Stoke are getting better and better and better.
I think the old wounds and mistrust with Peter Coates should now be filed away. He deserves to be treated with the upmost respect now imo!

I think ... after me careful read ... that:
1. SCFC Ltd does not own Britannia Stadium (or you wouldn't need a "football clause"; and you would not say "... comes under single ownership") 2. It is good that the club appears to be taking the revenue from concerts etc(well done St Peter and The Man of Mystery)
So, I'm happy, but I could have been much much happier. If anyone can give me good reason why this is the "best way for the club" (rather than SCFC Ltd own it) ... then I'd like to hear it

('Course, I could be wrong)

cant they name it something else now, like "potters arena" or "city of stoke on trent stadium"
only joking , but would be funny if they named it differently, then i think we could really call it home, "britannia stadium" isnt individual enough, if you get what im saying
, god, if im not complaining about the team , i complain about the ground

As Britannia are our largest sponsor, they are hardly going to name it something else until/unless a new major sponsor steps in. We are lucky that Britannia at least sounds like a stadium name - better than the Walkers Bowl or the Emirates etc.

I've always liked the name, if not the ground. The Vic had an 'Imperial' name and the Brit has something similar.

andyhar, this has to be good news doesn't it mate? couple that with the purchase of the michelin and we become self sufficient, there must be plenty of clubs who wish they were in the same position.
