(I don't think this is due a wheeling?) news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7155939.stmLandlady tries to "legalise" Greek Satellite coverage in the UK ... No surprise she lost "the first half" - Sky do indeed have exclusive broadcast rights in the UK, well done your honour. However, given we are entitled - as a European citizen - to move freely around the Union, crossing whatever borders we like ... carrying as much stuff back and forth as we like ... Then why can't we go to Greece, pay 'em £800 (if we were landlords) and bring the box, dish and card back home with us? Satellite engineers take note - You might have a lot of repointing to do, if she wins the second half, at some point in the new year. (And if she wins, private subscriptions would also be "legal"). Interesting ... At the minute I don't see why she doesn't have a case ... Murdoch's lawyers will be busy this Xmas. ;0) ah

It would prob also be the end of the Premiership if she did win, a lot of money in football is raised from TV rights, will be a lot of clubs going under if that money stopped.

The Premiership may be popular but if you can import the TV from another country why would Sky, BBC, ITV or any others bid for it? no bids, no money. No money from TV and loads of clubs under the Prem will go under.

Sky make most of their money from Advertising. Not from Subscriptions. Sky make most of their subscription income from Private Punters, not pubs. Although it's a fair bit cheaper to buy (privately) the footie in Greece, the difference isn't that much (as in Sky would not die if they dropped the price; and given the hassle, most homeowners wouldn't bother to switch to the Greek version anyway).
The issue is more about Satellite footprints, and European Law, than it is about football. A Euro-Super-League would sort all of the broadcasters problems, TV coverage-rights is one of the biggest arguments for implementing one.
(The most likely outcome seems to be that Sky will have to drop their prices to pubs ... Though it might have to go to court in Europe to get there)

Yeah, I thought the same too - Now that would be just like us!

the only thing that would happen if she wins the case is that the greek company would be priced out of it, theyd be asked to pay sky and itv prices and wouldnt be able to.
