TONY Mowbray has described Saturday's top-of-the-table trip to Stoke (ko 3pm) as a 'huge challenge' for his players.
But the Baggies boss has urged his players to take inspiration from their 3-0 beating of promotion rivals Watford on their own patch last month.
The Britannia Stadium encounter will again see a meeting of two contrasting styles as league leaders Albion pit their free-flowing passing game against the more direct nature of the fourth-placed Potters. Article continues Advertisement
A six-game unbeaten run has put Tony Pulis' men just four points adrift of the Baggies and it looks set to be another tight affair if October's 1-1 draw between the two teams is anything to go by.
"The players know what to expect," said Mowbray.
"We've played Stoke already this year.
"There is no right way, or wrong way to play football and it's whatever works for you.
"Stoke are having a fantastic season and I see their manager is talking about strengthening in the window so he's obviously got ambitions and aspirations to get out of this league.
"It will be a huge test for us.
"We will see how we go.
"We played against Watford, a team who have a similar type of philosophy, and came out on top.
"That's the challenge ahead for us - it's a huge challenge.
"We will have to do certain things well to make sure we stay in the game.
"They ask a lot of questions of you, more than most teams."
Albion have not won on City soil since Ally Brown, Peter Eastoe and Cyrille Regis scored in a 3-0 victory in September 1982 - more than 25 years ago.
But that does not concern Mowbray, whose side go into the Midlands derby unbeaten on the road in five games, with 13 points from 15.
"I'm not aware of a jinx, and I doubt the players are," the Hawthorns chief added.
"They might have read about it but it'll have no bearing on the result.
"Stoke will be very motivated for the game and will see an opportunity as they did when they came to our ground.
"They went close to beating us that night and it'll be a tough game again.
"Every game throws up a different challenge for us."

Can we just get Pulis to issue a statement about West Brom that derides them and their 'free flowing football'?

Albion pit their free-flowing passing game against the more direct nature of the fourth-placed Potters. I almost feel we might get arrested for our football. All hail West fucking Brom. Like my arse Melton Mobray.

I don't think those were Mowbray's comments, turtleton.
Most of what are "his comments" seem pretty respectful to me, tough game, having a good season etc.

Yes your right, is that the best reporters can do? With not living in Stoke anymore I have to listen to the radio and watch whenever were on tv, my pals over here support Wolves, Liverpool and Man Utd. They all watched the game against Watford and agreed we matched them and our style of play was mixed with passing and direct. What was the problem my Wolves pal asked having watched his beloved team get the piss taken the week before.
Like my arse reporters!!!

Re: Mowbray braced for backlash. « Reply #2 on: Mon 17 Dec 07, 17:15 » Quote from: duncan on Mon 17 Dec 07, 16:49 Even if we remained in this league I think Mogga should stay. He's done a fantastic job with our squad and has found some gems of players in Tex, Koren, Miller and Cesar.
I'd imagine we will not be seeing Murphy or Moore at our club. Mogga is usually quiet about who we are trying to sign. Even when Brunts name was mentioned everywhee we heard nothing official from him ____________________________________________________________________________
Well duncan i agree with you Tony must stay & i believe that within 5 years with TM at the helm we will be playing in Europe & if JP had any sense he would offer Mogga a new contract.

2-1 to the potters! I hope the winning goal comes from a Delap long throw, just to see the look on Mowbray's face!

or even a big punt up from Simmo that gets a flick on from Sidibe then comes off the bar and controversially bounces on the line and is given. That would really piss him off. ;D

Oh I wasn’t aware Albion fans had such psychic powers, in Europe, why is Den Caney starting a new service Smethwick to Paris with a stop at the world famous Marcel’s faggot emporium on route.
The only way the Baggies will be in Europe in 5 years is if they bring back the Anglo Italian Cup, or they perform the Eurovision song entry other than that it’s cheap package deals to Majorca boys so get over yourselves.
