I've heard a few rumblings we've already asked what sort of fee United want for the big man but it looks like we're going to try for him on loan judging by this.
Tony Pulis is hoping Sir Alex Ferguson will allow Ryan Shawcross to stay at Stoke City for the remainder of the season. Shawcross joined Stoke from Manchester United at the start of the campaign and has missed just one Championship fixture. The defender has also weighed in with five goals, with Potters boss Pulis determined to hang on to the 20-year-old. Pulis will contact his United counterpart Ferguson on Monday and is optimistic of receiving a positive answer. "We just hope Sir Alex will continue to help us and we can have Ryan until the end of the season," said Pulis. "I will hopefully speak to Sir Alex on Monday."

cant see why fergie would loan him out until the end of the season if he will be out of contract at the end of the loan, surely they will need to sign him up on a longer deal if they are gonna loan him out futher otherwise they would cash in now.

Depends whether any offer is larger than the compensation they might expect to get.

i just cant see it myself, if united dont sign him up the valuation at a tribunal will be very low after all he has only first team football this season, cant see united risking it

yeah he would but thats not what i am saying, the point is if they dont i cant see what advantage it would be for united to loan him out until his contract expires

I think the current scenario is more than likely that we want to buy him permanently, United are willing to let him go and Shawcross wants to come but would prefer to stay on loan until the end of the season to see whether we go up or not.
The best thing would be for us to loan us with an agreement in place that we'll buy him for £1million in the summer, pending his agreement to the move.
As much as I want him to be loyal to us, it probably makes sense for him career wise to wait and see what offers he gets in the summer. But he won't go to another Champ club and I'm positive he'll join if we go up.

Liverpool, I reckon that's spot on. I'm sure Ryan's agent is saying keep your options option, and whatever he's saying now I'm sure what Ryan truly wants is a second half of the season as good as the first here so he can persuade Man U to offer him a new contract, whether or not that's realistic.

I hope that Ryan stays with us, at least until the end of the season!
I think that Man U are in the pound seats. He's a young lad who's grown enormously, and he's currently 3rd in the Championship Actim Index!!
I wouldn't be surprised if they offer him a new, one year contract, with a view to loan him out.

Worrying that Ferguson hasn't returned the call yet.
But their chances of keeping Ryan Shawcross for the rest of the campaign remain in the dark as manager Tony Pulis waits to hear from Sir Alex Ferguson on the future of the young defender.
Shawcross remains Stoke's top priority after impressing during his first extended run in senior football.
Pulis has already made contact with Manchester United, but is now awaiting a response from Ferguson to learn whether his appeal has been successful.
Shawcross has already expressed his interest in remaining at the Brit to both Stoke and United.

I think ferguson should let him remain with us until the end of the season,he's a good young player who is still developing and looks dangerous already so he should keep him playing bit more first team football.

Sentinel News 19/12/2007 - Is Ryan deal a shaw thing?
Stoke City's chances of keeping Ryan Shawcross until the end of the season have been boosted by news Derby boss Paul Jewell has apparently dismissed reports of a planned swoop for the 20-year-old defender.
It is understood that Jewell hasn't even seen the Manchester United starlet play, let alone have a bid prepared ready for a January transfer window swoop.
Instead, the recently appointed Rams boss is said to be still assessing the strength of his squad before deciding on January targets.
That further clears the field for Stoke as they continue to await a reply from Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson to their request to keep Shawcross on loan until the end of the season.
Shawcross is currently contracted up to and including the New Year's Day visit of Hull, but Stoke remain hopeful his future will be sewn up ahead of that deadline.
Manager Tony Pulis is also awaiting an answer from Mali international Mama Sidibe on whether he will represent his country at next month's African Nations' Cup in Ghana. Sidibe remains undecided after he suffered serious injuries during rioting by Togo fans following Mali's victory there in October to qualify for the tournament.
His family is so split over his involvement that even his parents are giving him different advice.
Sidibe met officials from Mali on Sunday when they flew into England to try to persuade him to confirm his availability following his inclusion in their provisional squad for the tournament, which runs from January 20 until February 10. He miss up to six Stoke fixtures if Mali reach the final. Discuss This Add Your Comment:
