I have just bought a new Plasma and need to buy some HDMI cables to do justice to the quality of picture. I have been using SCARTs with my old TV but reading around the web it seems HDMI is the way to go. I have a Sky+ box on order, and have a DVD Recorder, both of which will connect via HDMI - but there seems to be conflicting info on the web about what people should buy. I understand that a £3 HDMI cable will probably be shite, but looking around, opinions suggest that over a certain amount of £££s it just isn't worth it - you don't get value for money. All I need is two good quality HDMI cables, oxygen free, gold connectors, and I don't want to be ripped off by some company claiming HDMI is some kind of super-science. Looking for recommendations please???

buy a gold one, brilliant picture, and if its only a sky+ box you wont be using via HD as you need the sky hd+ box

On the gadget show a couple of weeks ago they tested HDMI cables from the cheapest to the most expensive on picture quality and stuff and they did not find any difference at all

cheers guys. Also, cheers especially to Stoke-fan-23, I have cancelled my ordered Sky+ box due to the fact that like you say it has no HDMI socket. The guy on the fone told me it had!! I have re-ordered a SkyHD+ box, let's see if it's as good as they reckon it is. My mate I've talked to earlier has bought a Monster HDMI cable off e-bay for £40. Fookin 'ell. He says it's brilliant, I think I'd want it to be better than brilliant for £40

I use 3 £4 HDMI cables and they work just as good as any other Ive seen for High Def gaming, TV and Blu-ray movies.
On the SkyHD box, even if you're not going to be subscribing to the Sky HD option the SD picture on an HD box is much better then a standard Sky+ box. I think its worth having the SkyHD box just so you get the better scaling on SD channels.

cheers Plummy
good advice re: the Sky box, I didn't think that there would be any difference in quality on the SD, neither did Sky tell me that. I took the plunge based on the fact that I'd get the HD stuff, the better SD stuff would be a bonus.

The Sky HD box (Sky+HD as they're now called after the rebranding) comes with an HDMI cable so you'll only need to buy one for your DVD Recorder.
Never pay more than a tenner for one unless you need to go longer than 1.5 metres.
