The wage bill of them put together might make the appearance of 1 more seasoned professional coming in on loan - in midfield hopefully

All good stuff really, seeing if our "kids" can cut it in a higher level of football rather than buggering up our first team ;D
As Sumdge said on another thread, the sooner we are "safe" the sooner TP can start experimenting. If they aren't good enough, off they go, freeing up the wage bill for some other superstar.

Ange, be fair to TP. He has said that he doesn't think relegation battles are the ideal place to blood youngsters. That being so it makes good sense to get them out on loan to clubs where they will get regular first team football.
When they come back they have the chance to show if they can cut the mustard, if they can they get their chance - if they can't they are sent on their way.

He also said this season he was gonna give them a chance and hasn't looked like doing it. We're always gonna be playing for something so when it is gonna happen? He can keep making the excuses, I'm just waiting for them to become reality!

Ange,
Who would you drop out of the current first choice forwards to give Laurence Hall his opportunity?
If they were better than we have at this moment, they would be playing.

I think Neal has been the main player blooded this time, he's getting more exposure than ever before, in home games at least.
(Yet) again, surprising that Wilson hasn't had more apps on the bench, Frazer Richardson had the edge over him with playing on loan in Division One last season, but little else.
A good run of games at Cheltenham may do Wilson and Henry good, a match every now and again in the Stoke first team isn't best (Bould going to Torquay as an example that always gets used)
It really is make or break time for Henry, Hall etc, especially as there won't be much room for them in the reserves either soon with Denny, Palmer, Keogh, Dickinson etc all getting older and better with each season, and so on and so on...

Have to say TP seems to be the first Stoke manager to make full and proper use of the loan system both in and out. We have always seemed reluctant to send out young players on a regular basis previously.
Hadn't been able to get to any reserve games for a few years, prior to this season, so I was amazed when I did to see that it now appears to be almost a gentle stroll in the park. Certainly the gap from reserve team football to first team seems far wider than ever before.
If that is the case overall, then it makes sense for Premier League teams to loan out promising young players to 1st Division clubs to harden them off and for 1st Division clubs to loan their players lower down the ladder.
Realistically a 20 year old from a Premier League club reserves should be fitter, better, more tactically aware than his counterpart at Stoke.
If the academy is to work properly we can no longer afford to have 20somethings blocking up the reserve team for the next academy graduates.
By putting as many of our young players out on loan as reasonably possible we get the opportunity to test them at a higher level than reserve team football, without risking the progress of the 1st team by doing so.
Hopefully from next season onwards we will have more and more young players who have played regular competitive first team football elsewhere ready to make the step upto the 1st team and by doing so to raise the 1st team standard.
