FABIO CAPELLO is the new England boss. The FA Board held a telephone conference at 5pm this evening and approved Capello's appointment. Capello, 61, becomes the oldest coach to take over the England job and replaces Steve McClaren. FA Director of Communications Adrian Bevington said: “Discussions have continued throughout the day between The FA and Fabio Capello’s advisors. "The FA Board has also today approved Capello’s appointment as England Manager subject to the successful conclusion of these contract negotiations. These will continue tomorrow. "I want to stress that there are no problems and that we are going through the necessary process to reach a successful conclusion. "Understandably, at this time, we are unable to confirm any media activity that may take place. We will provide an update tomorrow.” The FA have also said that despite Capello's demands for an all-Italian backroom staff, there will be an Englishman as part of the new setup.

Still thrashing out his wage deal, it was mentioned on the radio to be somewhere between £4-6 million a year on a rolling contract, which was to be dependant on results and qualification, sounds like the FA maybe covering their backsides.

Well, they've lost a bit of money on the last clow we had in charge, and also a bit on Erikson! The only downsde to a rolling contract is, there wouldn'tbe much compo to be paid out if another, better offer was to come along for capello
