Looks shit. Yes if there is to be an update of this kind it will be a message to come up that you must download.
Why did they bother bringing out all the new blades to change it again?

It will be a lot like the wii, you have to create a character, as friends come online there avatar shows up on screen, I think they are trying to copy the PS3 home thing.
"Today, Microsoft announced a complete redesign to its Dashboard system. Now, instead of side-to-side scrolling through the blades, the entire Dashboard appears in a pseudo-3D environment. The interface now appears to be much more enveloping, but we'll have to see how it all looks when it's rolled out later this year. And, yet another Xbox 360 rumor turned out to be true. Avatars are coming to XBL, but they're not quite as cute as Nintendo's Miis. But, their interactivity appears to to outshine anything Nintendo is doing. When your friends log on to XBL, their Avatar will appear on your friends list. And now, you can create a "Live Party" right in the Dashboard. From there, you can launch into a game, or even share your Netflix movies with your buddies. It's looking more and more as if this is Microsoft's answer to PlayStation Home. If all of this works out as planned, Sony is going to have to pull out all the stops for Home to succeed. They'd better have a big announcement up their sleeve for tomorrow's press conference. "
