Thinking about joining the RAF as a training officer anyone had experience of this job or any advice about applying?

get yourself down careers office for a chat. depending on age and quals etc they may pay for you to do a degree (and wages too) prior to putting in some service. all 3 services are good but it depends on what you want, a commision in the army will give you a varied career with opportunities for when you leave. depends on what capbadge you choose, regardless of politics the services is a great career and if if you do your full time can look forward to a decent pension at end. the only drawbacks is the time you lose on exercises, operations and other work, although you have plenty of time off its not always when you want it. listen to lord percy trhough he speaks sense

That would be the REME as in Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (of which i'm a proud member:D) Despite lord Percy's sense, think i would actualy go for Navy if I did it all again. I'm working on the south coast at the moment and live in HMS Collingwood, the Navy really know how to look after thier guys and get superb facilities, far better than the Army anyway. Joined in 1991 myself and still enjoy it, have just signed up for the V Eng (2 year Career extension) so now won't be finishing until 2017, will probably then switch to Aussie army doing similar job, get another 11 years out of them. Highly recommend service life, go for it, you'll have highs and lows but the highs are really high and the lows you seem to look back on and smile !
