lol just had a thought about ben foster, surely it would be more sensible for united to loan him to us as they bought him from us and may be foster would prefer it??

I think the £2milluion extra will be worth it in the profile raising stakes...
I also find it ironic that people complain when we don't lay out fees for players calling Coates tight but when a mooted fee of £4 million is mentioned for a young England International Goalkeeper it is too much in one position...
Coatsey just can't win can he?

doubt strongly Foster would ever come back to Stoke
Fulop is a huge keeper who dominates his area & makes good saves & is cheaper than Carson
- however - signing Carson, not on loan signing him, would be a landmark,a statement of intent.
signing Nash (only) would speak volumes.

He's a name, definitely.
I suppose signing someone of his profile would have intangible benefits.
But whether this would actualy translate into his goalkeeping winning us points that we wouldn't get with Simonsen, Fulop or A.N Other in goal, only time will tell.
Villa fans certainly don't paint a picture of a commanding goalkeeper, and 4m is still a phenomenal amount for a keeper.
It looks like this extra 2m would be a kind of 'hype premium' largely because he is high-profile - and maybe we think it's worth it for the knock-on benefits that could follow?

being English,& capped, perhaps would make his sell on value higher than the Hungarians?

Well they've just announced on Radio Stoke that he is at the Brit and just discussing personal terms now. All but signed and sealed.

They just announced it in the sports at 2:00 news. They said it should be a club record fee and they are just trying to sort out personal terms.

Well tony likes to build from the back so maybe he has decided that if he is going to splash out he might as well make it a decent stopper to start with. Not that I have got anything against Simmo appart from how he deals with crosses.

I take on board that he supposedly had a good season at Charlton in their relegation season, but that was a season when they were getting peppered, and he presumably had more chance to make eye-catching saves. He should fit in perfectly then!

considering Liverpool were originally touting him around for £10m to Villa and others - £4m would be a good deal and if he could contribute half as much as Crossley did to keeping Stoke up it would be money well spent.

there was a lot of scaremongering about the 4million for ameobi stuff. people saying we couldn't get out of the deal to sign him etc. hopefully that taught some people not to read too much into things.
carson would be a god improvement, and a good profile acquisition. however, agreeing terms, and beatng the inevitable competition will be tough.
