Thatcher the myth snatcher. Apologists gloss over a litany of failures:- Her blind adherence to monetarism directly led to 2 recessions. 3 million unemployed in 1981. 20% inflation the same year, the most unpopular leader ever (until the current encumbent) in the opinion polls in 1981. Presides over the biggest defence cuts ever in the winter of 80/81 and directly engineers a war to secure an election victory in 1982. Lower economic growth for the whole of the '80's than the previous decade. Privatises publicly owned services - yes, services owned by you and me, with the result that all the shares end up in the hands of profiteers and fat cat city sycophants. At least she had the good sense not privatise the railways (leaving that to the muppet from Brixton - Major), but instead bled it dry of investment, a price we are paying today. Wasting millions of taxpayers money on looking for her imbecile of a son lost in the desert. Friend of the pariah Pinochet. The list goes on.
Eventually her own allies saw she was completely gaga and deposed her - shame on them it took ten years to get up the courage to do it.
Waste taxpayers money on a state funeral for her? instead the state should seize all her assetts and put them towards regenerating the industrial areas her policies decimated.
Plus. We went down in 1985.

That is Thatcher's Britain built on national pride, Built on national heritage and the bodies of those who died To wave the flag on the Falklands, to protect us from the Irish hordes, To support the rich in their difficult task of protecting themselves from the poor Yes, this is Thatcher's Britain, so let's increase the strength of the police Let's expand the military, let's all arm for peace Let's suppress all opposition, let's keep the people down Let's resurrect past histories for the glory of the crown

Nobody's disagreeing about the problems, but she didn't solve them at all. She handed the country over to asset-strippers and City gamblers, committed our entire foreign policy to slipstreaming the US and the brainless neo-con imperialism which has turned the West into terrorist targets, removed any chance of us being self-sufficient in manufacturing for many years to come, destroyed the trade unions (which God knows weren't perfect but were the best voice a lot of working people had), turned social housing into perceived ghettos and fucked the rest of us by meaning people had to pay massive amounts of interest to mortgage companies in order to have a place to live, and left Britain a crueller, greedier, nastier place than she found it. In the 1980's Mermaid, I studied Economics at Liverpool University and one of my lecturers there was Sir Alan Walters, who was Margaret Thatchers Principal Economic Adviser at the time, obsessed with 'Monetarism' and defeating the Unions...the difference between Thatcher and previous governments was that they just didn't care about the SOCIAL-consequences of their ECONOMIC policy It's one thing to close down ailing industries..but quite another to put something in there place... It wasn't just jobs that were lost it went far deeper than that..whole communities lost their dignity and self-respect and hope for a better life 'Where there is despair, let me bring hope" was the first thing Thatcher said on getting into office in 1979 What she succeeded in doing was the opposite Not too surprising that she didn't care about the social consequences given that she infamously said "There's no such thing as society".

Mrs T gave everyone a chance to own their own home, very cheaply. Once they owned their own homes, she thought they would bring their families up properly and decently, with traditional values of thrift and social responsibility therefore getting the slobs of the country off their arrises. Of course in the end she only appealed to the upper and upper middle classes. Why do you hate her so much? Easy You're all lower class scum. ;D

Three more reasons for hating & despising the witch:-
1) Poll Tax.
2) Clause 28.
3) Her support for the murderous dictator Pinochet.

Thatcher divided the country like no other leader...and you can argue until the cows come home about whether she was "right" or "wrong".. Her Oxford tutors described her as "Humourless" After leaving her degree course she did nothing for a few years until she met and married Dennis...a man much older than her but a millionaire...it was after that when her political career took off... Her sister did the same...married a millionaire farmer much older than herself... Goldiggers? Although you could argue that people who remained in work through the 1980's...bought their own council-houses and bought a few shares in Gas, Water and Telecommunications...got better off...a third of the population got far worse off...not just the feckless and the irresponsible either The Falklands War transformed "Thatcher" into "Maggie" the War Hero...it could have gone all horribly wrong but it didn't...and the Brighton Bombing of 1984 (a reprisal for the Hunger Strikers) almost finished her off... The first thing that Tony Blair did on entering office in 1997 was to invite "Maggie" round for a "cuppa" and Gordon Brown did the same when he became PM...such is Thatchers influence still.. Speaking Historically, I think she will go down as one of the most influential Prime Ministers in British Political History...although on a personal level I absolutely detest her with a vengeance

I think it's very considerate of them to give her a state funeral. It gives eveyone a nice big focal point to go and throw bricks at her rotting corpse and spit in the path of the cortege.
An opprtunity we would never have been given if she was allowed the undeserved dignity of a private funeral.
A magnificent decision.

In all seriousness there are bound to be demonstrations not only against her as an individual but against the expense and insensitivity of affording her a state occasion.
It will turn working man against working man and the Police will no doubt turn on the people legally protesting.
Fittingly a bit like nieneteen cuntin eighty four!

This country is fookin' crackers. At a time when children's charities are handing out the begging bowl to survive, the crackpots at the top decide this venomous bitch deserves a state funeral that will cost millions to the taxpayer; many of them decent hard working people who felt the effects of her cruel personna. They should just open a manhole cover in Debtford and sling her in. I reckon even the rats would turn their backs on the sour old meat and she'd wash out to sea somewhere. Even then, she'd pollute the fish and we'd end up eating her. Ugh...what a disgusting thought!
OS.
