Yesterday I was told the sad news that Michael Ruane aged 44 had taken his own life. Many of you on here had probably come across Mick as he regularly frequented the pubs of Stockton Brook where he used to live and latterly Penkhull and Stoke.
Mick was a larger than life character and bore an uncanny resemblence to Freddie Mercury. He was genorous to a fault and a crackin night was assured when he was around. I'll never forget our 93 promotion season where we travelled everywhere together.
Thoughts to his family but especially his brother Sean, sister in law Cathy and their children Josh and Zoe.
I'll never forget you Michael and thanks for all the many laughs you gave me and other people.

Just to echo your sentiments, Mick worked with me at Sainsbury's depot untill 4 weeks ago. As his T/C he could not do enough for you he will be sadly missed. He was a real geniune guy and I could not believe it when I heard the tragic news yesterday. RIP Mick.

Was with Mick, along with a few others on this board just a few weeks ago, as we celebrated a birthday doing the "Golden Mile" from Trent vegas to Stoke.
Mick was a quality guy, and although you never expect anyone to take the course of action he did, Mick would be bottom of anyones list to do it.
Everyone always say how much someone was a great guy and all that once they have passed away, but anyone who knew Mick in anyway will know that its the nailed on truth.
Just wish he had let someone know how he was feeling, and maybe i wouldnt be typing this.
RIP Mick - thanks for all the beers and all the laughs.

Is this the same Ruane that used to have something to do with the Fans Forum?
RIP.

I also used to work with Mick, and he was a cracking fella, was in shock the other day as npowerstokie said he would be be at the bottom of the list as he was always a happy chappy! When down the pub with him he would always make sure that people had beer in there hand!! A top bloke who will be missed RIP Mick!

Far too young to die and a tragic way to go. Why is it so often the larger than life characters this happens to? All the very best to family and all who knew him.
RIP Michael xx

A real tragedy. Worked with Mick at Sainsbury's warehouse. I know the sad news was a big shock for everyone who knew him there. He was certainly a larger than life character and appeared on the outside as though he didn't have a worry in the world.

I was wandering if anyone knew of any funeral arrangements, as there are quite a few people, myself included that want to pay our last respects to Mick! RIP

I was wandering if anyone knew of any funeral arrangements, as there are quite a few people, myself included that want to pay our last respects to Mick! RIP Because of the nature of Micks passing there is to be an inquest so it might be a little later than if he had passed away of natural causes. If I hear anything I'll post it on here. I'm still in shock to be honest.

Michael Ruane Jnr
Passed away under tragic circumstances on Thursday 10th July 2008.
He was a special brother and brother in law to Sean and Cath. A devoted and loving uncle to Joshua and Zoe.
Everybody's friend - today and forever.
Thanks to all the Stokies for their thoughts.

Didnt know him but RIP
(Such a shame the Happiness our promotion year has brought was not enough to take him out of the dark place he must have been in to take his own life)
