are we?
after the last few results; getting results against the various wallowers, making top of the table look ordinary and bereft of ideas (ringing any bells?), I really have the belief we have made the correct waves and are now finally being taken a bit more seriously. It seems more recently we're being described as 'well organised', 'professional' and 'difficult to break down'.......good! About fucking time eh? Welcome back Fortress Britannia, just a couple of shrewd extra signings needed and I think we are very well set....

we're definitely contenders for the play-offs with the current squad. with decent investment during jan, particularly in the midfield, we could become contenders for the top two.
this really is a great chance within a poor league. we need to grasp it though as a few near misses can result in a preston like scenario - who i believe have gone bottom of the table tonight.

We can sustain the good start by making sure we set out to win games and if we do we have a good chance of beating most sides in this league. Sitting on 0-0s is unnecessary and just plain negative.

it truely is a very poor championship this season - and this is a gilt edged opportunity for any team, even ourselves to have a good punt at achieving a £30million payday. i never been a pulis fan (except in the very first season where he saved us from certain relegation) but i'll accept that we're in a supurb position to enter this crucial xmas time. we need to batten down the hatches further in defence and build a team on the cheap (i suspect) or otherwise which is also more of a threat through midfield. the goals i'm sure will come from there as well as ricardo finding his form again.
as i say this league is so uniquely poor this year with out the we have every chance of making that £30million payday and we should be doing everything we can to make it happen and as i sit here typing i'm positive that at least one of the promoted teams this year will be a real showstring outfit who took advantage of this...

Thing is you get this far in a season have a good look around and realise....this division isn't actually very good. Any side with the bollox to go for it can achieve it.

Yes we're serious contenders but not for automatic spots - ok we have Salif now, thankfully, and fingers crossed we'll add more midfield quality in January, but we're not going to be the only team stepping it up so I reckon it's going to take all that to hang onto a playoff spot.

Automatic is beyond us at the moment. The play offs are reachable but its so important to approach games postively. Look at Blackppol on saturday. There is no reason why we can't win that game. Of course a draw away from is healthy BUT the time has to come where you understand your own worth and approach accordingly.

I seem to remember after we just missed out on the playoffs last season the board was full of posts saying that we had blown our big chance as this season's Championship was going to be much higher quality than the season just ended.
It hasn't turned out that way has it? I seem to remember similar posts at the end of previous seasons as well. Perhaps the Championship doesn't get worse each year - perhaps we just get more capable of playing in it. Certainly in our first season back in this league, our rare wins were something to be savoured and defeats were something to be expected. These days I go to games expecting to win or at the worst draw and defeats come as a bit of a shock - that is some sort of progress.

Yes, I think that we COULD be serious challengers, particularly in a league which is as even as this one is.
I don't think that it's a particularly poor quality league, it's just that this season there isn't one or two obviously better teams that start pulling away about now. Can't see that happening this year.
Just two things worry me a bit though, firstly despite all the good talk emanating from the management, can we attract the additional 2 or 3 quality players we so obviously need and secondly there is the annual post Christmas slump to contend with, which perversely might not happen if the first issue is addressed.
C'mon Mr Coates, you know it makes sense!

Forny makes a good point about the perceived level of quality in this division. For a few seasons now, the expectation prior to August has been that it will be a tough league, then by October everyone's talking about how poor it is.
Two or three shrewd acquisitions in January, and there's no reason we can't be challenging for a top-two place. Play-offs are probably more realistic though.

if the current run of form continues, then there is no reason we cant be top 2, but we have been here many times, and the real question is how bad will the post christmas slump be, if we can combat that we "should" be sorted. A couple of strategically bought players and we are flying

its literally there for the taking this season even more than last season, watford are top and they didnt look that good to be honest, and everyone else who has come down the brit looked tripe frankly so lets do a derby and really go for it in january

Mind you, we keep saying how crap this division is. Perhaps we don't give ourselves enough credit and don't say that we are a good team.

I think we are now to be honest. We are "hard to beat" side now, most teams really dont fancy playing us now, as was shown with the comments made by boothroyd. I have every faith that fuller will start to find form again and as such we really could make a push for automatic promotion.

Hard to beat is a good start! With Fuller in scoring form we become likely to win.

Exactly..I would like to see cresswell given a run up front with fuller, Ricci seems to work better when played with another out and out striker as opposed to mamas style of sitting behind him amd linking with midfield/long hoofs.
