Why not, he's got as much chance as anyone else!
It'll be good to see someone shouting and screaming from the sideline.

He's a good candidate, I just feel a little disappointed about everything with Mourinho.

Mourinho Schmourinho. For whatever reason he didn't want the job and he's entitled to that choice.

Prepare for the Pulis/Capello comparisons by Coates. Still, it might be entertaining off field. From todays Guardian. "Do not expect to see Capello sending on Franny Jeffers the next time Australia come to town. During Milan's money-spinning tour of China at the end of the 1996 season he deployed a three-striker formation in a friendly against a China XI, but then pulled Paolo Di Canio for a midfielder at half-time to protect a 1-0 lead. When Di Canio asked why he cared so much about the result of a friendly, Capello shot back with a barrage of expletives and added: "Your face looks like a penis." Di Canio never played for Milan again. There's only ever been room for one ego in Capello's squads, and that's his. A man who has dropped and fallen out with Totti, Alessandro Del Piero and Edgar Davids is hardly likely to be lose his nerve at the prospect of a Gary Neville-led uprising. Sick of perceived laziness from Ronaldo at Real Madrid he resorted to asking him "Aren't you ashamed of being so fat ?" in front of his team-mates as he left the showers. The striker was sold to Milan the next month. Capello's temper is notorious. "People say I'm impatient when it comes to football and they're right," said a man who has made abusive gestures at fans more than once, most recently in Real Madrid's 1-0 win over Real Zaragoza in January. " Why should I waste my time listening to people who are clearly less intelligent than me?"

You all must know - surely, you could acquire the greatest footbabll brain in world history and England would still win absolutely nothing !
2 reasons
1) We arent actually that good, our players dont have the skill or talent to compete at the highest level where, you need 11 men all performing at a good international level, we dont have that .
2) No matter how good the man at the top is, the rest of the edifice below him is incompetent and rotten to the core
In my opinion it will now take a genaration to make us compettitve again, its a shame -we do have a couple of decent players and the bare bones of a side
I wonder if the 'root and branch review' will conclude that the people actually conducting it , all need to sack themselves !
but no one will EVER convince me that we can do anything in international fotball when the likes of the Neville brothers, Joe Cole, Paul Robinson, Ashely Cole and Darren bent can get england caps

Joe Coe & Ashley Cole would get into almost every national squad in the world - imho -
I dont think there actually that many truly great players anywhere right now not just England.

Agree, inspired choice if true.
The guy has won the lot - wherever he's been. Doesn't get his teams playing attractive football (that's why Madrid got rid), but certainly knows how to get results. I suppose a bit like the Tony Pulis of the international scene ........

Superb choice imho. I like the fact that he prefers lesser players who are committed over bigger players who are not so committed. Maybe some of the overrated twats should start looking over their shoulders for once.

The Guy cant speak english so i cant see how its going to work, i would have thought whoever they pick would be able to speak english for fooks sake Firstly - he does speak rudimentary English. Secondly - jesus, how long do you think it takes to learn the basics of a lanuguage? No doubt he'll be getting some pretty intensive lessons, and it's not like we're in a rush is it.

Steve McClaren had experience managing English players in the Premier League.
Jose clearly never wanted the job.
Cappello is a born winner, if he can't bring at least a modicum of success (i.e. making it past the quarter finals for a change), I don't see who can.

Capello is a pragmatist and considering them limitations of the England players thats whats required. Its important that he isn't intimidated by the stupid egos in the squad. And that means stand up to them. Not like Steve did by dropping Beckham because he wanted everyone to know he's in charge.

According to Sky Sports News, Capello spoke fluent English during his interview with the FA.
Which is more than can be said about Steve McLaren.

The 1994 European Cup Final was possibly the greatest bit of football management, in the approach to a sigle game, I've ever known. If he can make judgments like that under pressure we could be onto something.

It should be fascinating to see how this all unfolds. We're being constantly told that he's no respector of egos, and Beckham could probably confirm this, and only picks TEAMS to win. If it's all true, It may actually be more enjoyable watching the team selections and player reactions (bruised egos) than the football.
Bring it on Fabio, looking forward to it myself ;D

Capello's imminent appointment drew a positive reaction from England's official supporters club. Of the move from Steve McClaren to Capello, Mark Perryman said: "It's like going from Captain Mainwaring to Field Marshal Montgomery." Thats from the Telegraph!!!! ;D

The good news is he doesn't carry passengers. If Fat Frank & Gerrard are seen as not being able to play together he wont mess about. Either one or both would be nowhere near the squad. He doesn't care about "names" if you are crap you are out, good and you are in. Has young Anthony played in a competitive match for Wales? If not he might get a game for England.

Itys good that theres a long time between the appointment and the first competitive game. He gets plenty of time to see what has to deal with and prepare accordingly.
