I noticed that during last nights Sports personality of the year the BBC failed to recognise John Ritchies achievements as Stoke Citys greatest ever scorer, all scored in the top flight of English football. This despite honouring Alan Ball, Derek Dougan and Ian Porterfield from the world of football during the programmes fallen hero's section. Was this a failing of the BBC or did we fail to apply to have our hero recognised??

Was watching it and had completly forgotten that Alan had left us. But likewise, was dissapointed not to see Ritchie given a mention

I was disappointed too, but not surprised. I suppose the only thing I can say is that there have probably been a lot more of the old players who have died this year and, like Big John, were not fashionable enough in the eyes of the media who revel only in the select few who they promote.
OS.

You would hope that it is a BBC oversight, or as Oldstokie surmised a BBC exclusion as he was not deemed " famous enough". Terrible if the club have once again let JR and his family down particularly after the shoddy performance regarding JR so far.

Would have been surprised if they had mentioned him. I don't feel that is worth getting wound up over though. It wasn't anything personal against the club or the great man.

Not wound up, just disappointed, it would have been a nice touch for the family and a decent nod from us to JR in recognition of his achievements.

Not only that but the BBC overlooked Michael Phelps in "International Sports Personality"
Yet again Habana a mention... I am sick of hearing about Federer and who was that golfing person? Sorry Phelps broke all records you can imagine in the pool, I dont care what Federer has won this year, its nothing to compare to 5 world records (some more than once) and 6 or 7 gold medals in 1 competition.
