A random one this, but does anyone remember when Ian Brown did that mad night where he went around a load of pubs in the north and midlands (can only think it didn't include the south), performing just two songs, then he'd be off to do the same songs in a different pub, it was a free ticket thing, you had to go to Mike Lloyds and get "word of mouth freebies" first come, first served. I recall them being like a purple ticket.
Stoke was on his schedule, and he played at one of the pubs on Hatshill Road—Grays Corner or The Talbot? He came in the back door and was chaperoned. We waited for ages as he was extremely later than advertised on the ticket. He did his Love Like a Fountain tune and another. Everyone went mental for about 10 minutes, and it was over!
I wonder who would attempt this crazy feat nowadays? Can't find a damn thing about it online.

Don't remember this at all ,probably after my time living there but I worked in Grays Corner for a bit but the Roses were still going then so must have been well after. Love anecdotes like this, I have some old gig diaries that I did for 10 years or so and theyre full of random guest appearances and stuff that happened at shows a bit out of the ordinary and if I hadnt written down you'll not find any internet references to it so it's all lost in the mists of time. A bit mad cos there isn't a thing anyone does these days that doesn't get posted on social media . I was called a fibber for telling one about getting a free ticket to an Elton John show ,can't stand him but it was free and he literally brought on some stellar guests for the last song and there's barely a record of that online..then a couple of pics surfaced from a press photographer at the time and I was able to prove to the person what was written in th diary . Had been like clapping one handed that one,I was saying "so why would I randomly write down and make something up in 1985 on a timed and dated diary?!" A cracking memory for you though and I suspect nobody will have a visual record of it and if they do they're unlikely to be on here and share it! Only thing I wonder is do you still have the ticket and was it printed or had Brownie written on it and the date and venue?

Slightly off topic but I remember seeing Bernie Marsden/Micky Moody band at the Talbot when Anne had it. Did two sets, one of blues rock and the other was the classic stuff they did with Whitesnake. Brilliant night.
