The longer the bread lasts, the more money which can be made. And the people who make the money don't have to pay for the health costs. But if they're invested in medicine then they can make money of said health issues too.

I think in capitalism we call this smart economics

This is potentially a real problem if we open up a trade deal with the US. In general, American food is shite and extremely unhealthy.
They have American bread in Kazahstan and Thailand where I live. It stays 'fresh' for weeks. The reality is that it is tasteless, full of sugar and plastics.
