The new bill will give patients sectioned under the Mental Health Act more dignity and say over their care. Among proposed reforms are the introduction of statutory care and treatment plans, the end of the use of prison cells to place people experiencing a mental health crisis, and updates to Community Treatment Orders, which disproportionately impact black people.

surely the first step is too make sure there is quicker access to treatment at the early stages of ill mental health
this would negate in some cases escalation of issues that would lead too ill people being sectioned etc
we have come a long way since the days of bedlam which is of course encouraging

The level of mental and social care in this country has gone through the floor in the last 10 years and it’s so sad.
So many places now act almost as mental health havens for people that need help. Very often the police and ambulance service are a social care service now which is just wrong.
Where I work we have 1/2 people a year that need mental health help but either aren’t getting it or ignore it and take up our time. And that sounds cruel but there’s nothing we can do to help them and you tell them this but they don’t want to hear it. It’s so sad that they feel the correct help isn’t there and we don’t have the help they need.

Like with a reduced birth rate we should be trying to fix the cause rather than the symptom.
Birth rates went up in the 2000s in the uk and mental health wasn't half the problem it is today.
Maybe there's a correlation between quality of life/austerity and dwindling mental health. And maybe to truly fix the issue that's what should be addressed.

Reduced birth rates are more to do with affluency in this country aren’t they? Women (and men) have a nice life and can do what they want without worrying about some crappy child to look after 🤣 And more and more people like the idea of that.
