I was at WBA that night when he scored his Chesney.Have heard a lot about this story lately as Radio Derby have been giving out updates on his condition and they interviewed him before his Op. Great to see he’s recovering well👍

Didn’t he boot the ball in the stand hitting a ball boy, recall it nearly caused a riot or was it David Speedie??

He was always a real handful when we came up against him for Sunderland and Derby. Shame he was way past his best when he came to play for us.

Very good Championship goalscorer, just past it when we had him here Why change the habit of a lifetime at this club . We've always bought players a few years after their prime who were once good but end up being absolutely shite for us. Vokes and Gayle in recent years for starters.

Think he can be summed up along with a few others
Good goal scorer but crap at Stoke
Anyway good luck to him on his recovery

Denis Smith was managing WBA at that time. Smithy was a big influence on MG's early career at York and Sunderland.

Denis signed him for York from semi pro Tteam Harrogate Railway and then took him to Sunderland from York. I wish him well in his recovery. I met him up at Sunderland during our Prem days..we were guests in an exec box, he came in, gave it the big one saying “I’ll always scored against Stoke “….And of course I couldn’t help myself responding “shame you couldn’t score for us”…cue silence followed by one of the Directors saying touché, touché….Anyway all the best to him!

I remember being quite excited when he signed. I was 14 at the time and he'd been one of the best strikers in the division in previous years when I was a kid. He was only 29 or 30 I think and thought he'd bring some goals for us. Obviously was massively unfit, became known as Flabbiadini while he was here and was absolutely shite. Big disappointment at the time.
You can't deny that he had a good career overall though and even enjoyed an Indian summer in the lower leagues after leaving us.

I thought he was going to be good. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Seems that he had 2 great seasons for Darlington in League Two in his late career. Probably his level at the time where his natural instinct and ability could outweigh his lard arse fitness and lack of movement. But we were usually one of the best teams in League One in that period and were probably a step too high for him. Even though we were obviously shit.

Won more awards for his Bed and Breakfast business than he scored goals for Stoke. Seems like a good bloke though, good luck to him.

Absolute legend up here, great to see he's doing ok. How you all feeling about the season? Seems like you have more scrap about you this year compared to last season, Cannon looks a hell of a signing. Is he on loan, or a perm?
