Still doesn’t feel much better to me, and I wish the BBC Stoke interviewers would stop asking what the players think about the atmosphere after the games, makes me cringe so hard.

The atmosphere in the early prem days was way louder than it ever had been at the Victoria ground Apparently the Vic was packed every week and teams afraid to play there Was so much better Back to reality..you're absolutely right I think the main criticisms of new stadiums is architectural and spiritual as opposed to atmosphere. Our ground is architecturally bland and painfully similar to a bunch of other similarish sized clubs. Old grounds, for all their faults, have a uniqueness and a charm about them. The two Sheffield grounds for example both ooze with character and are a huge reason why those away days are so highly rated. You go to stoke/derby/boro/soton/leicester etc and there really is very little differentiating all those stadiums. There’s a depressing sense of conformity and sterility to it. Your ground is a huge aspect of the spirit of your club. I’ve heard so many people describe stoke city as dull and I’m convinced we wouldn’t get viewed like this if we’d redeveloped, instead of moving to an out of town industrial unit built as cheaply as possible. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; if the Coates family wanted to create a legacy that will truly last for generations and is literally set in stone, then they could hire the best stadium architects and undertake a mass redevelopment project of our stadium; and turn it into something truly architecturally beautiful and unique, and the envy of the land.

I think it's just as much to do with the new schedule full of daft kick off times as much as anything.

I don't think we really need a vanity project and don't really buy into this Villa Park etc admiration Obviously if we had the £ back then , would have been ideal but the ground is fine for what we need. The complaining re the location, I can't really think of anywhere else in the City where it would have been much better due to the road networks .

I don't think we really need a vanity project and don't really buy into this Villa Park etc admiration We'll have to agree to disagree then mate. I don't even think this idea is a vanity project; obviously I put high priority on architecture but I'd also want the supporter facilities in all parts of the stadium to be brought up to the highest standards. The ground was built on the extreme cheap and the facilities in many parts feel like the bare minimum to comply with regulations.

Had to be built on the cheap at the time and that location to be fair. Was some going that we managed it in the first place We would be in a position to build something far better now obviously and would have been nice to see but wasn't to be. The alternate plans for the stadium were more the McAlpine as it was but gave us little room for expansion .

From where I sit the atmosphere is there or thereabouts where it has been for the last few seasons. The first half vs Hull was louder than normal.
You can re-configure the stadium all you want but the best atmosphere booster will be a good solid run of wins at home and the atmosphere will return…it’s there waiting!

Saw a few comments saying the Vic could be shit too. And I agree. That said a lot of my years watching us there were pretty grim.
But……give me a crap night at the Vic over a crap night at the new place every time.
And a great night at the Vic was leagues ahead (metaphorically speaking) of the best the new place can produce.
