It’s nearly as good an injury as when Andy Townsend announced when doing the famous Liverpool v AC Milan champions league final that he had a month out injured after brushing his teeth

If he did lose his thumb, could he still play? Is there anything that prohibits him from doing so? Has there ever been a professional amputee footballer?

I’ve tried to get out of doing the dishes by being shit at it.
But that’s a step too far.

Anyway why hasn’t he got a dishwasher the tight bastard? We defo did well to steer clear of that particular bad apple, not good for morale in the dressing room

Many years ago (late seventies?), a dual player for Dublin (that is, one who played both football and hurling for the county) injured his little finger playing football for his club. The finger stuck out at a strange angle, preventing him from holding the hurley properly. His solution was to have the finger lopped off. He missed one game!! ...and to think that players today fall over in agony if you breathe on them.

By the way, his name was Mick Holden, and once appeared on "A Question of Sport" in the "What Happened Next" part.

Carlos Roa the Argentine keeper who saved Batty's penalty lost his finger seem to remember. He got his wedding ring caught in the hook that holds the netting to the crossbar and it tore his finger off
He was an odd character. He retired early in 2000 as he thought the World was going to end and became an uncontactable recluse in the Argentinian mountains.
His club wanted to give him a new contract but no one could get in touch with him apparently

If he did lose his thumb, could he still play? Is there anything that prohibits him from doing so? Has there ever been a professional amputee footballer? There was a winger in Sweden called Håkan Södertjerna who in 2002 almost made it to the national team - it's crazy to think he played in the country's top tier with just the one arm. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%C3%A5kan_S%C3%B6derstjerna

Reminds me of that newcastle player marcelino who couldn't play due to a finger injury. Think he only played a dozen games in 3 or 4 years.

Liam Lawrence tripping over his dog was a good un 😆 At least tripping over your dog might be included in a risk assessment, I don’t think brushing your teeth or doing the dishes would. Anyway why hasn’t he got a dishwasher the tight bastard? We defo did well to steer clear of that particular bad apple, not good for morale in the dressing room You don't put nice glasses in a dishwasher it will scratch them. The only load I will put in the dishwasher is ...
