Under 21 football can be weird. Many academy cat 3 and 4 clubs don't have reserve teams or even under 21's - so you can get a really young team of 17 year olds, some first teamers who aren't in the team for various reasons, or a mixture. More often than not, they'll be younger than Stoke but you'll get a Nick Powell playing. For Stoke, the U21 and previously 23's featured a lot of first team squad blokes as they needed minutes.
You never know what you'll get with these fixtures, and in fairness to Stoke that looks a young-ish team although don't think there was many if any under 187's in.

Why not just have Reserve teams & play any age players,so long that their must be at least 5/6 under 21s.

That's why they PL2 'reserve' leagues now. Chances of a kid playing first team at a category 1 are far less than at 2, 3, or 4 level. |
