Who, the Premier League or the MP’s who took the tickets, or both? Just because you’re offered freebies doesn’t mean you have to take them, especially if you got elected on the promise of new politics etc etc. The Premier League have probably realised that it may be a different party in power but they’re all essentially the same when it comes to morals.

Nowt surprising. Corruption is how the world goes round. Politics and football - the games gone ( although politics is routinely corrupt). Red or blue- they’ve all got their price.

It was in the Labour manifesto, the King's speech and has all-party support. It has too much momentum and is too high profile for the Government to drop it even if they wanted to ( which there is no reason to believe they do). There is a risk, as Clive Betts MP implied, that there will be pressure to water-down certain parts, but I think the FSA, Tracey Crouch and others, including many MPs, will continue to be very vigilant on the detail as well as the principle of the legislation. There is widespread public and football fan support for strong regulation. It's not as though the PL have huge support for the position that there is nothing wrong with the game or that football has shown that it can regulate itself effectively.

Completely agree, it needs regulating. I think we need compulsory fan involvement, I like the idea that the league should own the Club title ( Germany do this I believe) so that the club name can continue regardless.

But what about the recent supposed threat from UEFA that governments shouldn't interfere in football in their respective countries? I say "supposed" because I'm not sure how much of the reports were media conjecture rather than solid fact, but there are a number of precedents of nations being punished for government involvement. Though on the other hand one could say that the Taylor Report and introduction of all=seater stadia was government intervention and nothing happened after that - like most organisations I'm sure that UEFA and FIFA like to pick and choose which rules they implement and when.

It's a good question. Ceferin's threat has been wheeled out many times over the years by the PL ( it wouldn't surprise me if they lobbied him to issue it this time). I think the key is in the word "independent" - setting up an independent regulator is not the same as a Government directly interfering or taking decisions on football. Suffice to say that the lawyers are confident that it won't breach the FIFA regulation. As you say there is already other football-specific legislation.

What does this cliche, the games gone actually mean? Free tickets to games is hardly a new thing and in what way is the game gone?

Lobbying the government and MP's is nothing new for any group with an interest.
