really thought Gibson was the ideal man, for the captain's roll, but he seems to be struggling, as a leader, and an example to the younger players around him, so disappointed with him, as I am with the rest of the team, he needs to step up,and watch a few video’s of Shawcross in action as captain, what does everyone else think,or is it just me seeing this, or am I overreacting.

He's shite and always has been. He's not the dominant centre half we needed, he's a left footed and slower version of Wilmot.

Been saying the same for several weeks now, despite initially being impressed with the way he was talking to everyone on the pitch. Seems to have deteriorated significantly (how often does this happen when players come to Stoke) ,he's definitely not a captain for me and currently not even worth a place in the starting eleven. Needs to be dropped, while he gets sorted out. Very disappointed.

I thought that Gibson was the leader that we needed. That was until we signed him. He must have had other players covering for him at his previous clubs. He seems to struggle to do his own job, let alone help those around him. He certainly isn't the leader that I thought we'd signed, & needed. He shows no leadership at all. Phillips, however, for a young man is a revolution. That's why the defence looks so much better when he plays. Trouble is, he's not ours, is he? I just hope that he & the other loan players don't have an end-of-year return clause. I January we need to shop again, this time for a centre half leader, with a capital 'L'.

I don't think watching Shawcross videos will help either. Great player, not so as captain.

Never really thought Shawcross was captain material either, good player in a decent side, but never a captain!!!
Now Vinny Overson, he was a leader!!!

He’s Jon Walter’s mate though How are they mates? Were at Burnley together. Both talked about knowing each other in the interviews after his signing.

The spine of our team is weak. The keeper is fine despite what some fans think. However we lack a dominant centre half, strong midfielder and a focal point up front. Gibson is fine as a back up but shouldn’t be starting every week especially alongside the hapless Wilmot. Our recruitment remains poor

Does everyone have to agree with an opinion? He always seemed to be silent on the pitch, not much communication or organising from him. He was an excellent canter back, absolutely. But his most successful time also came when he had Faye next to him as captain, or Huth next to him with loads of experience too. Not a negative on Shawcross, I just don’t think he was ever massively outstanding when he was the main centre back.

Videos of Roy Keane might be more useful. That’s what we need.
