Does anyone think that it’s actually a good idea having ex players in positions of power at clubs where they have a legacy?
Just thinking of the SJW situation now and his legacy, based on what happens in the next few months, is going to go down the shitter royally!
If I was Shawcross, I’d go absolute nowhere near the main job at Stoke! Stick to the role he’s now at or take a managerial role elsewhere!

It's a good idea if they've got the experience and track record in the positions we're employing them in. Which is where we fail.

For a club owned by billionaires shouldnt we be trying to lure the most experienced football has to offer at our level? For some reason it seems stoke usually like to find the most mediocre, bland, or even none experienced....throw the dice and hope for the best.
Crazy club

There's a place for the likes of Walters, Shawcross etc. and that place is doing the hospitality bits, telling their stories of successful days gone by at fan events or for the sponsorship packages on a match day. I think it's very telling that Denis Smith, who had a successful managerial career, never touched the top job here despite I dare say having that opportunity presented to him. We were also owned by the same family back then too, so go figure.

Would prefer to remember him for FA cup semi final goals than for failings as a DOF

He even said that he would never manage Stoke because management is tricky and he wouldn't want to tarnish the reputation he had or his relationship with the fans.

Denis naturally wanted to manage to Stoke but it was Mrs Smith who made him realise it wasn't the best idea for this very reason & hence it never happened. Good decision I'd say. Being a Footy manager is like being given the keys to No.10, it always starts well with pomp and ceremony but hardly ever ends well.. That said, 2x club legends who have and would experience varying returns to former clubs are Frank Lampard will always be adored at Stamford Bridge as a Chelsea legend despite a difficult period managing there. I do think Frank would be the exception to the rule there though. Whereas Graeme Sharp was exciled from Goodison Park following a turmoiled spell on the Everton board there!

Another example would be Souness at Liverpool. Though talking to The sun didnt help his case either

Always seems daft if they haven’t got the experience.
People did seem rather happy with him though to start with.
Which was very strange.

From the OldStokie conspiracy theories school. The Coates haven't forgotten the Birmingham 0-7 riot and are not only destroying the present but also destroying the past! 🤔

Crazy club This is not an after-timer comment, but when you have basically two years of parachute money after you come down from the Premier league, you should go out and get the best manager available for whatever it takes. Otherwise, like us, you get stuck in a financial Fairplay purgatory for the rest of time. I’m pretty sure Allardyce was available in those first two years, and we should have moved heaven and earth to get him. I didn’t think Rowett was a bad appointment, but he lost the plot under the pressure of the job, but he hadn’t got anybody promoted out of this league anyway. All we’ve done since then is appoint hopeful candidates and got nowhere.
