For what feels like since the end of Hughes' tenure, we've been absolutely crying out for a solid spine which starts with the above positions.
I have no football qualifications, have never coached, and I'd be a terrible manager, but it's plain to see we've terribly neglected these positions since relegation especially.
We needed two solid central defenders whose first priority was to erm, defend. And a beast of a DM who could protect them.
I'm sick of us getting the recruitment so wrong, so often.
I might weep if I have to watch Wilmot again. Gibson has been equally as dreadful.
Comes to something when Michael Rose is probably our best permanent CB.

I think Lawal is supposed to be the beast DM but we won’t see him for a few weeks yet.

Somehow we have to fit Ben Pearson in when fit as that's what he does well (defend the two centre backs)
Controversial comment coming up but given the weakness's of our collection of centre half's and defensive limitations of the two full backs I'd be looking to go 3-5-2 which would also mean we could switch Koumas alongside Cannon.
Issue with that is accommodating Million who is arguably our best player.

It may just upset a few of our attackers 343 Johanson Wilmot Gibson Phillips Million Lawal Pearson (Burger or Sidibe or Moran) Bocat Koumas Cannon Bae 352 Johanson Wilmot Gibson Phillips Million Lawal Burger Bocat Moran Cannon Koumas

He was a 3 at the back merchant until he watched Celtic under Ange and sat and had a conversation with him. The whole reason for bringing Narcis in is to instill a culture and certain way of playing to give us an identity. That identity will not be to play 3 at the back. The defence like the rest of the club, is a shambles and has been since relegation.

I am not going to pretend that I'm 'itk' or anything, but I have it on relatively good authority that Hughes wanted to sign Axel Witsel in the January 2016 transfer window - when it didn't happen, we signed Imbula instead. Feels like a pretty big 'what if' moment in retrospect.

Do we actually have any idea when Lawal and Pearson might be back?.

Do we actually have any idea when Lawal and Pearson might be back?. Add Gallagher to that and we’ve got some beef and onion back

The teams you have picked show we don't have the players for 3 at the back, if Gooch was fit maybe. Wilmott or Phillips will be right back for the foreseeable future.

Interesting one that as when they were commentating on yesterdays game they were saying Million had played full back before. Maybe it was duff information.

I've said it on other threads but will say it again. Gibson has made us defensively worse. We look better when he doesn't play. Not brilliant but definitely better.

Imbula was a good call, the bad call was not selling him for £40m that summer then getting Witsel.
