Pejic hit the nail on the head about our inability to work the ball out from the back. Didn’t see tonites game but vs Argyle & Oxford the movement from defence was pitiful. The opposition easily stifled us by simply pressurising the back 4 and preventing any meaningful forward momentum. If, for some fortuitous reason, the ball is played to our midfield trio they are caught like a rabbit in headlights trying to find a forward making a diagonal run. It’s basic stuff.

None of our defence is capable with the ball at their feet. Too slow in possession, too negative. Midfield is not much better. In general, as a team we do not move the ball quickly enough.

I've never seen a team of players that need so many touches on the ball - which slows things down as you say. For me movement off the ball is very poor as well, especially from our midfield. The number of times today our full backs and CB’s had the ball, looked up and Burger, Thompson, Junho etc were stood static marked by hull players so the ball has to go back and across.

Honestly this exactly!!!! Think we are Man City when we aren't even Alsager Town. Get TP back and lump it to the big youth up top, you can't miss all those passes then!! H

I agree with this, thought it was downfall last night. I actually think we played too narrow, especially in the 2nd half. Hull did really well setting up their pressing traps so that the ball went out wide to Bocat, who I think needed Junho wider for the ball down the line. Instead it went back to Gibson who would then panic and go back to Victor. Instead he needed to be passing through the lines to Junho for him to get on the half turn and at their defence.
Wasn’t a fan of our goal kicks either, simply invited to much pressure by bringing everyone back for us to just play 2 passes and lump it to Cannon.

Philips looks very good with the ball at his feet. So there’s a ready made solution there.

You aren’t wrong but for 30 minutes, we played with much fewer touches and predominantly forward. Then we stopped. Is that a lack of confidence? Lack of Fitness? Both? If we are playing like that, risking the ball at times with passes through the lines, we have to be confident enough to keep doing it when it goes wrong. We weren’t.

Fitness is definitely part of the problem. Everyone bar Plymouth and Carlisle has dominated the last half hour; Hull dominated the last hour. This was a problem throughout ANs time here and SS did nothing to rectify it. The players seem fragile mentally and physically compared to the opposition in every game.

I thought the first 30mins was good from both teams. It was like ping-pong air hockey type stuff...and then one team ran out of steam or ideas. Who knows.

Contrast our movement off the ball with that of Hull. Their players kept popping up in lots of little pockets everywhere. It was like they had mini trap doors all over the pitch with a series of connected tunnels. I watched them off a couple of throw ins and it seemed highly coordinated.

Even the more technically gifted players' passing is shite.
Manhoef (when he actually does pass it) always plays it behind someone, or too late if he's trying a through ball. Same with Bae and Koumas.
Every intricate move we try to put together looks clunky because passes are always behind, or at the wrong pace, or to the wrong foot or played too late.
Hopefully that's something the new manager will work on.

Passing is a problem for a lot of footballers, many are athletes and not particularly good with a ball. Look at Kyle Walker, he can't pass wind yet one of the highest rated players in the country

H Did you actually see the game? First half we passed the ball and looked quite good. Second half we lumped the ball forward towards Cannon and it just kept coming back! Yeah , unfortunately I did. Cannon in the last couple of games has got himself into good space with no service, lumping the ball up to him is fucking ridiculous he's 5ft 11. I was commenting particularly on the old Pulis lump it to 9 foot 3 Mama. Not suggesting we do this with the current crop at all. As for playing it out from the back, TP would have had an embolism. Smash it into row Z and reset H
