I think a promotion winning manager being sacked before the season started ( Gudjon) was fairly random.
However- this has been as fucked up a 48 hrs as I’ve ever known. Almost surreal.
Think the reason for that is not so much SS sacking but the total randomness of the replacement

I'm past caring about Schumacher now... Nice enough guy, and I wish him well wherever he may end up, but I'm convinced he never would have got it right... Not at Stoke anyhow!!!
I'm more excited to see how we're finally going to shape up under a foreign coach for a change.... Will it work, or won't it??? Only time will tell!!!

I thought it’d happen in November so not really.
It was obvious he’d be sacked before Christmas.

Think the reason for that is not so much SS sacking but the total randomness of the replacement That shenanigans with Gudjon was definitely random & bizarre but wasn't so much out the blue for me when I think back. When we attended the Bet365 for the squad welcome back with the Play Off Trophy there was already murmurings that Mr G was going to be sacked due to underlying issues and I recall it did over shadow the celebratory atmosphere somewhat. The suspicions & rumours turned out to be true when the Icelandic owners pulled the plug on Gudjons manager status within the next 24hrs. But waking up on that Autumnal morning in October 2002 after only 13 games in charge of the new era back in the Championship, learning that Cotterill had left us overnight to be an assistant manager was definitely an out the blue moment I recall well. A mixture of anger and WTF has just happened was hard to comprehend whilst travelling to spend a day at work!

Same. Only a few weeks prior he'd sat outside the team hotel in Austria and chatted to a couple of mates and me for half an hour, even bought us a pint, came across brilliantly with no hint of what was to come 🤷

Didn't Brian Little once jump on his motorbike and tell everyone "I'll be back in a minute" then disappear into the horizon never to be seen again?

Allegedly. Not the chairman's daughter but certainly not his own wife And he did ride off on his motorbike saying he'd be back when asked for an interview

Cotterill, and the manner of his leaving, was pretty unprescidented. A Championship manager leaving with no prior warning.... to become an assistant!

Gudjon getting the boot was a major surprise to me. Really felt for the bloke. Especially with who was bought in as a replacement!

If we’d lost the next league game then surely we’d be getting a lot of people calling for it. A coach at Norwich being pretty much confirmed by lunchtime the same day was something I doubt anyone would have called though!

Cotterill bottling it for mention. Also, Greenhoff leaving. The Daily Express headline “Brothers United” with photos of Jimmy and Brian. Until I read the article, I assumed from the headline we were buying Brian.

Gudjon Thordarson leaving after the Play Off final was a shock. However, the fact that him and the board were not exactly getting along was already widely known - so maybe not a shock.
Steve Cotterill just running off to become Sunderland's assistant was pretty out of the blue!

Gudjon getting the boot was a major surprise to me. Really felt for the bloke. Especially with who was bought in as a replacement! Well… Megson unfairly got the boot purely for the Icelandics to bring in their own Icelandic manager in Gudjon. So on the one hand, you could say what goes around comes around. For what it’s worth, sacking Gudjon was the right decision. We were lucky to get into the playoffs after some very poor form that second half of the season.

Yes, I think it's fair to say no one say it coming, at least so early in the season.
George Burley no show ranks along side it.

Nothing ground breaking but I remember Muniesa signing completely out of the blue, not one person mentioned anything at all about him signing for us. I like those transfers, as rare as they are.
