An excellent coach is what I've been wanting for a long time and from all the reports, it does suggest we've got ourselves one.

It’s worth noting that SS record was equivalent to 71 points in a full season . Ok I’m counting Carlisle and msbro as 3 points Not forgetting that Schuey did the hard work by trimming our squad and got rid of the players who didn't want to be here. But that 1.41 PPG is one way to judge if it was indeed good move by the board or not. I'd have thought that that wouldv'e been Walters job to trim the squad. I think I could've sussed out who didn't want to be here from my armchair I'm afraid

Walters then had to find the way of getting them to leave the club.

If Shue was averaging about 40% win rate, this new guy has to get a lot of wins under his belt to beat that,or he could end up having a short stay.

But he's always been protected by a manager. Can he do eet with all eyes on him on a wet Tuesday night in Stoke though 🤞🤞🤞🙏

I'd happily take a couple of draws if it puts an end to the 'scrape a win then turn up to the next game forgetting how to play football' express we have been on for the reign of SS.

Could be interesting times these.
Certain Stoke fans may need pacemakers fitted as I’m led to believe there’s going to be a lot of building attacks from our own box and lots of over playing.
The 3 passes then hoof it brigade are going to do their nuts in watching us😂

There's a couple of ways too play the passing game though.
There's the Southgate way which is square, back, forward, back, by which time the opposition has got 11 players behind the ball.
Then there's the PEP way which is the passing game that keeps possession but gets the ball forward quickly.
Too do the latter you need the highly skilful players, that's the problem.

I don’t think I could cope with watching Gibson, Wilmot and either of our full backs passing it amongst themselves, with the odd foray into midfield which results in Thompson refusing to pass forward, so back it goes to the Benjamins.

Reading Walters talking about his long-term admiration for Narcis, you wonder to what extent this was inevitable from March.
It was probably first planted as he thought about becoming a sporting director, and you'd imagine these thoughts about his dream candidate started to crystallize when he got the job here.
Obviously succession planning is commendable, but there must be a danger that you're never going to be happy until you bring in this idealised candidate you've conjured up in your mind, and start to subconsciously find fault in everything the guy appointed by others, who doesn't fit your perfect template, does and start to pine for the coach you've had tucked away in your pocket.

You just need players to run into space so they are available for a forward pass rather than go hiding. Movement is the most important in this style of games from the players without the ball. You need to make the opposition dizzy by the end of the match by being constantly on the move

I get the feeling Walters doest want anyone at the club he hasn't bought in himself,J C needs to watch his back.

I think he has said he will pick a style of play, which suits the players, which I wouldn't imagine will be tippy, tappy, play out from the back.

The ability for all of those drops rapidly outside the Premier league. In fact half the teams in the Premier league struggle with it. Lets see what happens..

It makes me wonder if those last three results at the end of the season hadn't been so impressive (Plymouth, Southampton, Bristol City), would Narcis already have 4/5 months as Stoke manager under his belt?

We all thought we could have sussed them out but it seems some of our previous managers didn't.

PPG is a better metric, which puts him at a similar scoring as MON and AN. We were probably on track for another 12th-18th position, i.e going nowhere. Time to put all our faith into Pelach and hopefully it all works out nicely

I must be really getting old. For the life of me, I cannot understand this modern preoccupation with pricking around with the ball in, or close to, your own box. It's inviting trouble, especially with players who are less comfortable with the ball. If Barcelona can't do it (I refer to the shambles that got their player sent off last night), then how can we be confident that we can? All this will do is make us an inferior version of what other - better - teams do. God help us if we were to ever be promoted, and we are trying to beat proper teams at their own game. I hope that this new guy cops on quickly to the talent (or lack thereof) that he has at his disposal, and comes up with a plan accordingly.
With the benefit of hindsight, what Pulis did was bordering on genius, in that he invented a style of play - two quick wingers, surrounded by huge, six-foot plus, intimidating players, and one guy who could land it on a sixpence with a throw from sixty yards. Other teams had to train specifically for matches against us. It's amazing, when you think about it. We frightened the shite out of teams, the ground was rocking, and we had Wenger wearing nappies in the week leading up to games against us.
Oh! to have that feeling just one more time!

steady progress !?!? Not even a shot in target against mighty Oxford!! Very particular kind of progress … That's one game you idiot. Just admit it. You didn't want Schuey and hated him from the start. It’s not just one game is it though. I really liked SS and wanted him to succeed but there has been so many terrible performances and inconsistency that I shed no tears that he’s gone
