I can't answer any of your questions but will be keeping my eye on the responses cos I also want to rip out my old VERY old system and get a conbi fitted!
There could be a boiler fitting Stoke fan about to get a few jobs!!

not an expert but had combi boiler installed last year cost £1.5k, dunna think you would need new rads, an told to get a decent boiler not a cheap one from diy shop. had it done by them at the top of smallthorne roundabout can't think what they are called but will find out the name if you need me too.

That sounds about right, we had ours done by British Gas at our last house, no new rads needed and importantly they fully cleanse and flush the system too, it's worth making sure you get that done. We moved to a new build 4 years ago and the combi here is a glow worm, just had the BG service and the engineer said they are the best you can get.

No need for new radiators pal well there shouldnt be if all the piping is in sound condition, your looking at around 2k if you want a decent job doing maybe a little less. As said you may be able to receive a grant think about contacting north staffordshire WARMFRONT about this. Obviously the cheapest boilers on the market are a little unreliable but there is no need to go top range anything from the middle sections will work fine, there is always a risk with a new boiler however if it is fitted correctly and maintained well you will have no problems. A complete check a year on all appliances will save you money in the long run.

Bought my house a couple of years ago and got a quote for a new boiler: The quote was £1,700 and that included a new combi boiler (which made up for about £800 of the total price), new rads with thermostatic valves on (supposedly it is a legal requirement) and labour. The labour included digging a whole in the ground for the condenser and supposedly you can't just have it out of the wall anymore??? I never got it done in the end but will be having it done later this year because I have got a mate who can get me a 60% discount at Travis Perkins - looking to spend about £1,500 in total if anybody fancies some cash in hand work

I had a new combi bolier 3 weeks ago. Worcester are very good but pricey so decided go for the Baxi duo tec 28H.
Which magazine say its the best so I will see how it goes?
Cost to fit it was around £1600.

Over the years in different houses had Valiant, Worcester-Bosch and Glow Worm. All did good job, Glow Worm cheapest and V economical. Worcester-Bosch expensive but dead reliable. Valiant somewhere in between. I'd go for Worcester-Bosch if you have the money otherwise Glow Worm. As already stated deffo go for system flush because back boilers apparently notorious for system sludge build up.

We've got an Alpha CD32C combi...with new pipes etc cost about 2k..didn't have new rads which was a mistake because they were really old and have nearly all had to be replaced..our house is 150 years old, full of "character" but theres always something breaking fucking down..make sure you bleed your rads once you have a combi fitted too..on a regular basis..or the rads get full of air and rot then piss brown water out all over your brand new fucking carpets like they did in our house
