I donāt think thatās true. Watch any old football, the amount of time the defenders had if they were bringing the ball out is ridiculous, they were barely put under any pressure at all. And short goal kicks were almost unheard of. High pressing is a radical change. High pressing as a team maybe, but every team had one nutter who would do a single man press on any defence, Walters for us, Tevez and Rooney did a similar thing for united around that time Everyone plays very samey samey now, it's a part of the reason football has lost characterĀ Right. Maybe itās a semantic thing but for me pressing is by definition a team endeavour. I donāt count Craig Bellamy tear-arsing after the ball wherever it goes as āpressingā at all

Nothing better than when someone lines one up from a outrageous distance and it just flys in. Football has lost that completely, now players just recycle the ball out wide and try passing teams to death. Bring back rock and roll football, high tempo, high pressure and loads of individuality. The way the game should be played Ronnie Radford

Are modern footballs even designed for long shots? Just wondered?
On the subject of Pep ball. It's just a bit embarrassing when you see teams in the Evo-Stik Division East trying to play like our from the back like Man City. Has player power reached a point where their manager's are scared of telling them that they don't quite have the skills of Kevin DeBruyne?
I think the culture of football has changed. Players who had a go from 35 yards used to get a bit of a cheer even when they misfired, but now it's just loads of groans and moans and the coaching staff having tantrums.

Still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck that one!

My top 3: Steino v Rotherham Brammer v Luton (?) Beest v Telford away Mate, I was in perfect line with Steino's effort at Rovrum behind the goal, I swear I jumped a good 2 seconds before anyone else, it was just "in" when he hit it!! Cameron Jerome against I cant remember, night match mad screamer in off the bar (always looks better that!!) Ben Wilmott with long hair, 30 yarder.

Opened this thread hoping they'd outlawed the practice of rolling around screaming on the floor holding ones' shin, knee, head having hardly been touched by a member of the opposition. Not to be

The rise of data has made football more predictable and boring. The statistics say to play it safe and keep possession rather than risk a long shot, so that's what teams do. Pep/Man City are an incredible side, but I've got no interest in watching any of their games. 'Statistics are like mini skirts - they give you good ideas but hide the most important things' Ebbe Skovdahl There's too many folk looking at gaining an extra 1% whereas if they looked at the whole thing entirely differently then you get massive gains - look at Leverkusen who basically use the other team's high press against them. I'm convinced we'll end up back at lumping it to big one for a short one to run onto soon enough.
