There’ll be that ridiculous ’happy clapper’ phrase thrown around, but give me a decent to watch team that at least hints a playoff season could be around the corner in the near future and I’ll be more than happy.
Hard to pin what league position that means exactly as there’s nothing magical about 12th vs 13th even if it means one is top half and one is bottom half. 60 points or so maybe, rather than a nervous crawl towards 50?
The random formation against West Brom (at home ffs) means a little doubt has set in my mind, but I can’t argue with the response since. I’d rather have the mistakes that can with this young manager and squad scenario, than whatever it was we’ve had since about 2016ish to be honest.

I actually don’t mind being called a happy clapper. What’s the alternative? A miserable bastard who spends his life moaning and fearing the worst? We’ve got enough of those on here anyway.

I had a quick look at the fixtures to the end of October. 8 games, we should win 7 of them but let's not be greedy. 5 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses puts us on 22pts from 12 games. No idea where that would put us in the table but I will take that as a return by end of Oct. No point looking down, let's just crack on and see where we end up!

We are not one of of the best sides in the division, it's unlikely we will trouble the top six come the end of the season. But nor are we one of the worst, and we certainly won't end up particularly close to the bottom three.
If the manager was an unmitigated genius who consistently got all of the big calls right, he wouldn't be managing in the second tier. But if he's had a promising career so far and got his last club promoted in time.
We'll lose fixtures this season, but we'll win a fair few too. We're a work in progress and I for one am going to try to enjoy it. It's certainly better wondering about where in midtable we might finish than worrying too hard about who is below us every week.

It’s fine to “just enjoy”, until you’re in or near the bottom three by Christmas. Which is generally our problem. Fair point. I could be tempting fate but I think we should be ok this season. I don’t think we’ll seriously trouble either end of the table. I think you’re right, but I thought that last season. But I do think we are on the right tracks now.

It’s very likely we’ll be inconsistent this season given the age of the squad. I just want to see a well coached side, who work hard (doesn’t necessarily mean just run a lot) and who goes out to score goals and win games. I can’t stand another season of us trying to contain the opposition and play to nullify the team we’re playing. That squad, especially at the top end of the pitch, should be finishing in the top half of the table. The youth and inconsistency is my main negative thought too. We have some experience in Gibson, Stevens, Pearson, Gooch, and Gallagher, and maybe Thompson, Wilmot, and Rose, who could turn out to be some of our most important players (especially if we're on a tricky run of results) but most don't look like being regular starters for most of the season. An exciting-to-watch team that finishes 16th is much better than a boring-to-watch team that finishes 16th. Not that I think we'll finish 16th - I'm optimistic for top half at least. It's said runners-up are never remembered, but I remember that Kevin Keegan Newcastle United team that didn't win the Premier League because they were exciting to watch. Aside from the occasional bright spark, I'll have forgotten most of our post-relegation teams within a few years.

I agree, looking like games will be more enjoyable than for donkeys and some big wins with it Also looking like less 0.1 defeats but more much bigger defeats If it comes together then we could be in the play off hunt but suspect there will be too many patches where it doesn't click Top 10,more goals, more entertainment

Looks like we actually have a proper foundation to work from now. We have young exciting players who will grow as the season goes on but they will make mistakes as they learn. If we are anywhere near the playoffs come January we will be hard to stop, we are just going to get better and better especially the more they play together especially if we are free from any serious injuries

Schumacher might or might not be the right guy. Ditto Walters. Ditto JC. Ditto Darnborough. But for the next few months at least we have a squad packed with young and talented players. It’s not perfect and I’m not sure Schuey knows his best team or how to get the best out of the squad he has. But. He seems keen to play the young lads. Walters seems to be on the same page. And fucking hell can they play. Time to sit back and enjoy. Fuck worrying about promotion or relegation. Just enjoy the football and young lads playing because they love it. Go on Stoke. I think that we're on the verge (at last) of something very special.
