10 years ago today, that's a decade, since we won 1-0 at Man City. Man City were reigning champions and had started the season impressively. We produced a brilliant performance combining grinding toil with craft and guile. History gets rewritten. Hughes was allowed to go on too long and it all ended on a sour note. But remember too, we had some truly great days during his reign. This was one of the greatest of all. Please don't start the repetitive 'where did it all go wrong' thing. Just this once, don't be sad it's over..... be happy it happened. And remember a magical marvellous day that reminds us how great it can be to support a football team.

Pieters was credited ,and presumably got a bonus for it, with an assist for Dioufs goal Technically correct but...

Fernandinho ( I think) got booked a minute before. When Diouf ran straight at him he couldn't commit to a challenge. Good thinking Dioufo.

Odimwingie sadly did his cruciate one minute after Dioufs goal after he set up an absolute sitter for Moses to make it 2-0
A great day tinged with sadness

Diouf has to be one of the strangest signings in the PL for us.
Hughes chases him for 1-2 years.
Plays him up front in his first season and gets a very creditable 11 goals in 34 league games.
And then proceeds to try and replace him, play him on the wing, play him at right and generally just dicked him around after that season.
Why?

Didn't and doesn't make sense Only thing can think of is Hughes got bored with things, saw Wales do really well in the Euros playing wing backs and remembering Diouf having had an absolute stonker of a game as an emergency right back v Chelsea (league cup win?) thought that would work on a regular basis That's the only theory can think of

We bought Allen and he thought he could replicate fucking Wales. When in reality we had this: Shaq Bojan Arnie Diouf It’s just beautiful. Yeah we could have got better than Diouf tbf but him and another competing for that role would have been ace. We went for Joe fucking Allen instead.

He could have put Arnie up top and gotva left sided player (of quality) in, easier to do than attract a really good striker Or just stick with Diouf Even with signing Allen if he'd stuck with 4 at the back it would have been better Wing backs is a perfectly fine system but Hughes put out an horrific version of it with Wimmer in, Diouf and Pieters (fine at LB but not at LWV) and wing backs and binning Bojan Terrible and completely fucked up both Stoke and Hughes for the period since

What a day.
That away end after the goal went in is something I’ll never forget.

Because, among other things, he switched to three at back when we didn’t have any wingbacks so he had to use Diouf at RB. Really stupid
