Yes. Kicking the ball away prevents the opposition from playing the dead ball quickly. It usually accompanies dissent and more often than not the same ball rather than a new one is used for a free kick. And it's unsporting.

Yes.
But Clive Clark should never have been booked at Gillingham for throwing the ball away because he actually had it knocked out of his hands by a Gillingham player.

There were couple of instances in last nights match that I think the ref got the wrong way round.
Moran was booked for kicking the ball away whilst the players were celebrating the Koumas goal which is very harsh considering he wasn’t stopping the game from restarting.
Johansson avoiding a booking despite throwing a spare ball onto the pitch to stop them taking a quick corner.

I'm sure a fair while back it was a bookable offence. Probably went the same was as holding at corners - once referees realised they'd have to book players from big clubs and give penalties they quietly forgot about it.

If you kick the ball away now they have balls ready all round the pitch? Of course you should. The free-kick will still take longer to happen. Not every ball kicked away leaves the pitch. Kicking the ball away is also indiscipline. In addition, any opposition player standing over the ball or messing around when ordered to retreat ten yards, should receive a yellow card.

Why do it if you know is a booking though? You want Christmas off? Yep 😁 Never understood this urge to do it and giving the ref no choice You never saw Fatima Whitbread whip her shirt off when she chucked those pole things a long way Thankfully

Players who have left the pitch or by the goal line nudging balls back on so there are 2 balls on the pitch, and the ref has to stop the game so stopping quick free kicks of throw-ins etc. naughty naughty
