Forty years ago yesterday was the first game of the 84/85 Season and tomorrow is the anniversary of the first home game on Bank Holiday Monday (1-3 Aston Villa). Started watching Stoke the following season, so didn’t witness any of 84/85 though remember seeing frequent defeats coming in on BBC Grandstand Final Score results; it turned into an average around 4 points every 10 games. Seven points were won in the first 8 games and just 10 points in the last 34 games: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984–85_Stoke_City_F.C._seasonThis current season is the 40th I’ve attended: 10 PL 23 Championship / second tier 7 Third tier Of 22 complete “Championship” seasons: Season 8: Play offs under Lou Season 16: Promotion under TP On that trend, we might do something in Season 24 next year, relegation permitting 🙂, but it’s going to take something out of the ordinary and some stability…. We haven’t done much in those 22 seasons: 2nd (2007/08) 4th (1995/96) 8th x2 10th x2 11th x3 12th x2 13th x2 ****** 14th x2 15th 16th x2 17th ****** 21st (TP’s first season) 23rd 24th ****** The six finishes since PL relegation. ******

Makes it very difficult to respect "worst Stoke side I've ever seen" opinions (about the side these days)for anyone who saw it

Makes it very difficult to respect "worst Stoke side I've ever seen" opinions (about the side these days)for anyone who saw it Dead right. Apart from all the records we broke it takes a hell of a shit team to go on a run of 10 consecutive defeats TWICE in the same season.

A team of kids out of their depth and we didnt have a pot to piss in No such excuses for the shit we’ve witnessed in recent years

I wonder how things would have changed if we had just gone down the previous season (83/84). Would we have just got relegated again, or would our young squad have flourished at an easier level and helped us get back up much quicker than we eventually did?

The players were literally a shit team at the beginning of the season, most of them caught a virus which meant they could not get off the loo

Bloke behind me. ‘ he lied. ‘.
