Great listen on a Sunday morning, regarding the history and origins of terrace tunes. Covered Mull of Kintyre and Nottingham Forest today, really interesting that it wasn’t until 2017 that they got it coordinated with the club in an attempt to reinvigorate the atmosphere that had been declining for years, this coincided with an upturn in their fortunes.
Made me think of those early years Delilah’s and the theatre involved with a rigorous singing of our anthem. It always started with a “shssssssh” winding its way around the ground, until silence prevailed, it was then sung as a call and response with TJ singing the verse line and the crowd providing the response until we hit the chorus, very different to how we sing it now.
I’m pretty sure Colin will cover Delilah at some point, well worth a listen

Needs something with a thunderous and catchy chorus don't you?
Which means pretty much anything by ABBA.
How about Fernando? The new TJ leads in with 'Can you hear the drums Fernando?' and the rest follows.
Be a bit camp, but I'm on to something 🤔

The modern football experience is just so shit isn't it? Compared to? Those packed ground days in the 80s for instance ? 14k average gates Long for those days Simply wasn't as some remember it I get what you mean with things like regular sub-10,000 crowds which even persisted as far as the mid 90s. Hooliganism, crumbling grounds, racism etc etc. But I think there's just something so sterile and uncompetitive about modern football that makes the general experience of following football, both in the ground and generally watching football, so bland and emotionless. The inequalities between the Premier League and the rest. The way that we can all be gathered round the table begging for scraps like dogs while average clubs like Leicester leave us all hanging and hoping for pretty nothing players like Tom Cannon. FFP. The general social media celebrity football culture like all that Ronaldo siuuuuuu shit. The oil clubs like Man City gradually taking over and dominating everything. The way football is played now with all this passing round the back from the keeper and one striker up front etc. On balance I think I'd rather be watching football back in those days with more of a connection to the players and much less of a gap between the haves and have nots. There's probably a bit of rose tinted spectacles. Nostalgia for youth too where everything feels more fun and fresh when you're a kid/teenager/early 20s where everything is new and exciting and you aren't burdened by boring and sometimes worrying adult responsibility. But I don't think there's any doubt that overall it was a more enjoyable experience then. Despite the often shit football and playing in the third tier etc.
