How can you blame JC he employes the manager who wants his recruitment team. They then sign .the players for a team that has the best facilities in the championship. He doesnt sign these lilly livered fuckers. You do know this recruitment team won't have been chosen by SS right? He won't have a say in who is on the recruitment staff.. Isn't this what we were trying to get rid off ...this manager-centric approach? I assume there is a balance here. Manager sits down with DoF and agrees type of player he wants citing examples who may or may not be available. Recruitment team identifies 5-6 players who may be gettable Manager sits with DoF and transfer committee and agree top 3 preferences based on managers brief, expected transfer cost, wages and bonuses etc. DoF and Recruitment go and try to hire them. Some they get, some they don't. Some players may not even be manager's choice but that is a dangerous game to play as manager will be under no obligation to pick them. If he is told to pick them then the club is fucked. I don't think the Coates' operate this way so am not too concerned.

It took 2 poor results and 3 poor halves of football to forget the work that was done at the end of the season when this manager got things very right. Since then he’s had to start again almost, key players from that run are gone. We cannot compete with most of the clubs in the league in the market for the players we and he wants. What we have to do is stick with him as he tries to find a way to make us competitive. I don’t agree with every decision he’s made so far, I but he’s not stupid and he’s not been tarred by a Stoke curse. I believe we have some real talent here now, is it enough to get us up, probably not but I’ll enjoy the ride whatever happens.
The quality available in the league is awful when compared to the league above. When Ipswich can come along and hoover the best of the championship on wages that no other team in the league will be able to afford again it says it all. You just need everything to fall into place for one season. Anything you are trying to build will be dismantled each year by the Prem teams taking your best talent. It will happen to every team that doesn’t make it. Look at Leeds. You just have to hope that you can get it right for 9 months and survive the Jan window without being pulled apart by the vultures. Every team in the same position. I’m looking forward to what we can do when we get everyone back and firing again.

Which key players have gone? The three best players we had last season are still here.

Unambitious managerial appointments, every single one since Lambert have been pretty underwhelming!!!
I mean, could you see any of the managers we've had since relegation leading us in the Premier League???

We knew at start of season Campbell was leaving end of season, I personally wouldn't class Campbell as a key player either.

What concerns me is that we sign players with good reputations, doing really well and within weeks of playing for us, they all seem to turn into bags of sh*t. It has happened so many times over the past 8 years or so. Why? I’ve asked this very same question many times. Gayle was prime example joining us as a better than 1 in 3 striker and turns into a 1 in 16 striker in two seasons. He’s not the only flop though but he sticks out as being the biggest.

Look how shit we’ve been for 8 years or so. And until last summer we couldn’t compete financially either. Next hole? And, while we’re at it, most (if not all) opinions have holes in them, otherwise they are facts.

So it's not that we can't compete with most other clubs it's because we are shit (I actually agree there) Skipping to the my last hole (there are others) You're claiming we and others having to deal with prem teams stripping us of our best players. Apart from Souttar and Collins we can barely give our shit away. We absolutely robbed whoever forked out for Brown. We've literally had three players go to the Prem while we've been here certainly not stripped.

Who employed the manager? Who employed Walters? Who has been the constant in all of this mess? It's just staggering how many people just can't see the basics here. We've simply moved the god model from the dugout and placed it in the lap of a Sporting Director who has only 6 months experience of this type of role, with Fleetwood Town in League One and some no mark Irish team in a footballing backwater of a league. But he's an ex club player and he scrambled down from the Ivory Towers and verbally hit a few of the shop floor workers when he was a temp so he must be good? The owner has a lot of money and he's clearly passionate about his football and this club but he clearly doesn't have a clue what he is doing. That much must be crystal clear by now? The fact we are entering the final throws of a transfer window scrambling around like idiots trying to balance out and strengthen a squad that is clearly weaker than last season is a real indictment. I just wonder when it will truly sink in for a the last remaining folk that either can't see it or refuse to? When they are boarding their free bus ride for a Tuesday away game down at Crawley?

Is your concern (a) the fact the SD may be the new God or (b) that the SD only has 6mths of experience in the role? For what it's worth I understand your concerns but I am ok with the current arrangement. JC will get it right eventually. Just enjoy the journey!

Don't worry though, we've reclaimed one end of the stadium, are building a new training ground and need everyone to unite together. I have no idea where we're going under Jon Coates but fear your prediction might be right, adding Jon Walters into the mix appears to have been like pouring petrol on a fire.

Who should have we appointed instead who could have guaranteed everything would immediately fall into place? It appears that JW has more experience than this bloke did when, at a younger age and as an ex player, he was appointed as Sevilla’s SD: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MonchiI don’t have much knowledge of SD’s but it would be interesting to know of any who have made a better job of it than he did (as a novice). He’s now at Villa, having previously signed Nzonzi from Stoke. The squad does look weaker, but it requires some very detailed knowledge of: *All of players the club has been looking to sign. *Which players we’ve failed to look at that we should have. *Who we’ve missed out on and why. *Players we haven’t been able to move out Any experts here with such detailed knowledge have the answers??? Be interesting to see a detailed report on the day to day work of JW so far and some analysis of why he’s bound to fail…

You're asking for details amongst the fan base that just doesn't exist and that's fine, we can all sit down and shut up and not have an opinion that is even remotely pointing towards a negative tip if it upsets people? As I've said many times there always will be an element of implied knowledge and calculated guesswork when it comes to fans having an opinion else this board and social media in general would resemble a ghost town. We'd literally talk about the 90 minutes we see each week and even then, there will be some clever arsehole somewhere that would try and suppress any negative opinions by claiming the fans have no knowledge of what they have been training in the run up to the game so can't possibly comment on it without the finer details. The fact of the matter is we have owners that have bladdered money up the wall for the last 6 years or more and never finished in the top half of the Championship despite rifling through managers, coaches, Technical Directors and Recruitment gurus like a 3 year old goes through a bag of sweets. Details or no details they are the issue. No question about it.

There’s so many variables in a game of football and reactions (opinions, implied knowledge and calculated guesswork) on managers, players and owners are strongly influenced by results. There were some who wanted the manager jettisoned and the likes of Sam Allardyce appointed after some early defeats. Two shots on Saturday go in rather than both hitting the post and this thread probably wouldn’t exist until the next defeat and the verdict thread on the manager drops down the board. You don’t have the details but you also don’t really know that JW won’t be a good SD. The previous experience aspect is not a prerequisite to success in the role, as the previous link shows, but which SD would you have appointed? What is the pool you would have selected from? Would we better off by this stage with one of them from that pool, after approx 6 months? Are you certain that JW will fail in the long term based on the current frustrations influenced by the state of the squad and two defeats on the bounce? It’s all about the mid to long term when it comes to informed judgment. If you don’t have the details and instant solutions it’s probably best to see what happens when the players in at the end of the window have a season on which to judge any improvement. Finishing mid table with entertaining attacking football would be a start.

The previous experience aspect is not a guarantee to success in the role, as the previous link shows, but which SD would you have appointed? What is the pool you would have selected from? Would we better off by this stage with one of them from that pool, after approx 6 months? Are you certain that JW will fail in the long term based on the current frustrations influenced by the state of the squad and two defeats on the bounce? It’s all about the mid to long term when it comes to informed judgment. If you don’t have the details and instant solutions it’s probably best to see what happens when the players in at the end of the window have a season on which to judge any improvement. Finishing mid table with entertaining attacking football would be a start. Sounds a reasonable summary that, although along with the two shots that hit the post we also had the miss of the century from 8 yards, which would have negated a thread like this.

I think it's coming round to the point where the limiting factor at the club is above most, if not all the employees purely based on a fag packet maths based law of averages. Finishing mid table with entertaining attacking football would be a start. I had a funny feeling you'd go down the results road and you haven't disappointed. Shame. The irony being here that results are a huge part of any football related decision at any club, and at this club it has seen us rifle through managers over the last 6 years at an almost Watford level of embarrassment. It will ultimately do for the current manager as well and it has formed a large part of many people's debate about the current ownership model given managers have come and gone with differing styles on an almost tic for tac basis and results and performances have continued to suffer across all of them. That leads me into the question you've asked on each an every one of your replies. The sporting director and head coach should be selected by the owner based on the style of management they want and the style of football they want to see which I think is where the argument starts and ends. Given what we've seen over the last 6 years the owner clearly doesn't have an overarching philosophy on both of those counts which again proves the point. Would we be better waiting for 6 months given we don't have finite details on what Walters and the Head Coach do on a daily basis? We can wait another 6 years of bottom half finishes if you like but from my stand point, the argument won't change. I think there is more than enough evidence to suggest the owners haven't got a clue what they are doing and that each person in and out of the various roles will be just deckchair shifting on the Titanic, in the hope that something one day sticks and works. If that provides enough juice for you to carry on defending the indefensible then crack on.

Can someone just pop down to the AMEX Stadium quickly, break in a bit and nick their busines model blueprint....?
That Herzeler mush from St Pauli seems to be doing OK right now AND the the conveyor belt of top footballers they recruit and then sell on at exhorbitant prices is up there with the best....

Agree re "injured players " Are they really injured ? Vidigal Gallagher etc Jump on the treatment table and still get full pay. What a great job .. Tried to touch on this mate, see my thread re, Gallagher, Rose and Wilmot playing 18 holes of golf last week at 11.20, but according to the experts on here training is finished in time for Wilmot to make a 30-40 mns journey to start his round, and you dont need calfs or ankles to play golf, you couldnt make it up
