The Fiscal Rules are a bit like Triggers Broom Labour introduced them in 1997 and changed them once in 2009 after the Global Financial Crash Since 2010 successive Conservative Governments have changed the Fiscal Rules 7 times in 14 years. Reeves is not changing the Fiscal Rules but changing the way Debt is counted by excluding BoE interest on QE, a technicality i know, i posted about it in the Starmer bashing thread. The Reform Manifesto called for BoE to stop paying any interest and instead give away Tax cuts. My argument at the time was that Banks would simply pass on the loss of interest to customers. It would also repeat the disaster of Liz Truss believing Tax cuts Trickle Down into the Economy, they don't. It is also precisely because of Truss that this has become more topical. When interest Rates were low the amount BoE paid in interest was low but Truss's debacle pushed Interest Rates up and they haven't come down below 5% yet The Guardian Article you linked calculates that it will give Reeves an additional £20Bn headroom to borrow to invest in Capital Projects, my calculation in my post was £17Bn so it will be somewhere in that region. If it is leveraged with Private Investment it could easily be doubled or trebled and is exactly what's needed to rebuild crumbling infrastructure and boost growth

they don't need to do that , the houses they are building to house asylum seekers that have been granted asylum will be built in marginal conservative constituencies , problem solved .

Probably worth noting that the source of this article is none other than Conservative MP Nick Timothy....not like he has an axe to grind or anything...

How are they doing with this? By my calculations after 53 days of being in power there should be 42,744 built and ready for use now with another 822 completed today ready to start on the next 822 which will be completed by the end of tomorrow and so on for the next five years until all 1.5 million have been built.

On the outskirts of Plymouth is the new town of Sherford. The development is 9 years in and there has been 950 homes built with 720 occupied. The town will eventual have 5,500 homes which at current rate of building will be completed around 2070, some 80 years after the concept was first agreed by Plymouth & South Hams councils. Much of the recent delay is due to material and labour shortage. Barmy Starmer's and his side kick Angry Ange's target of 1.5 million new homes in 5 years my arse. You ain’t seen nothing yet in terms of material & labour shortage once the rebuilding of Ukraine starts when the fear is that many of the good hard working Eastern European construction workers in uk will go. This is according to my son in law who is the senior Quantity Surveyor for a large firm of developers in the South West.

Keir Starmer in the Rose Garden, about to warm us up for tax rises in the October budget.
I already have the newspaper headlines from the Lynn Anderson classic!
I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden

Well, it looks like lying is a common trait within politics and politicians... If you work, be prepared to be hit and hit hard. If you don't work, no doubt you'll get more for sitting doing nothing. Typical Labour

My local MP came to visit me today for an appointment, Julia Buckley, MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham
I have to say and as a non labour voter, what a breathe of fresh air she was
She was knowledgeable about Electric vehicles which we spoke about, realised what was required and has some wonderful ideas

Today's news shows what an absolute cock Starmer really is Speaking of which, it's probably worth factoring in this from the previous government:- Basically, the Conservative Party deliberately warped its spending figures through the OBR - this is where the government tells the OBR to review what "the government" says are its spendig figures (as opposed to the actual spending figures). It means that, as a direct consequence of Rishi Sunak and Jeremy Hunt lying to the OBR, the Labour government now faces "one of the largest year-ahead overspends against DEL (departmental expenditure limits) outside of the pandemic years".Now, you can ignore that if you want. But the reason the Labour government are looking to tackle this now with tax increases for those who can afford it (i.e. corporation tax) is so that they can continue to spend on infrastructure projects like house building and local government projects, for eg. It's literally the opposite of austerity.

No petitions committee formed yet is very shoddy. And I really can't see why petitions and the signatures already gathered shouldn't be carried over, things people care about don't disappear just because there's a new government 🤔 petition.parliament.uk/

It's generally helpful if you provide a quote or a link to the news or article that's upsetting you mate. At least that's what normal people do.
