So let me get this right...the party for the working man, funded by the working man through Unions are doing deals to benefit the working man? It's just shameful that these union member peasants are allowed a fair wage, shame on the government. I find it outrageous that these Labour twats aren't helping the rich get richer and the poor get shit on....bring back the Tories Working man ? 69k a fair wage for a train driver?

For the hard of thinking I'm leaving this here just for you mate. Richard Madeley…now there’s a cunt Does he mention shopping bills going up to cover the cost of shoplifting? He did have the gall to mention shoplifting on air a couple of months ago..Suzanna Reid's face was an absolute picture.

I'd imagine it's somewhat inline with what is paid elsewhere Most surveys show UK train drivers to be more highly paid than other comparable countries in the EU.

He is almost literally being shafted (and ridiculed) by the people you describe. While at the same time trashing the movement without which he (and huge numbers of us) would not enjoy holiday pay, sick pay, a safe working environment, and so on. It defies all reason.

I've been saying it for weeks (ever since July 5th) that what this Board needs is another thread about how awful this (and any other) Government is. I'm guessing that someone has been nutmegged here... Not sure about that mate. It's a scientific fact that we leftie Champagne-quaffing, virtue-signalling, Islington townhouse-dwelling, tofu-munching, Guardian-reading, wokie snowflakes have zero sense of humour.

I think we should thank Knype for his Public Service in bringing to everyone's attention to the fact that UK Unions financially back the Labour Party.... who knew
My main concern is for The Telegraph (and Spectator) itself in case it were to fall into "the wrong hands"
For decades everything went along fine when the Billionaire Tax exiled Non Dom Barclay Brothers owned the titles and by such astute Tax Planning were able to contribute £Millions to the Conservative Party. It was only fair that the Brothers would quid pro quo ensure favourable commentary in their Newspapers for the Conservative Party whose Non Dom Tax Policies had saved them 00s£Millions of Tax over the years
Unfortunately the Brothers weren't quite as astute in business as they thought and they ran up a huge debt with Lloyd's Bank that they couldn't or wouldn't repay so Lloyd's seized ownership and sold the Telegraph and Spectator to RedBird IMI a Abu Dhabi Company owned by Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the ruling Royal Family
Naturally this sent shockwaves throughout the Conservative ranks who were fearful that their coffers would be depleted of contributions (there was a loophole for Non Doms) and the Editorials might not be so favourable.
A solution was found when the Conservative Party banned by Law *Foreign Ownership of UK Newspapers and RedBird IMI is now in the process of being sold to Hedge Fund Billionaire and owner of CBeebies GB News Paul Marshall. This came as a relief to the Conservative Party as Marshall too has contributed £Millions to the Conservative Party and indeed the Brexit Campaign and his Political leanings are well understood
* It is not entirely clear if this legislation will be retrospective and affect the Standard owned by KGB linked Lebedev elevated to the Peerage as Baron Lebedev of Hampton and Siberia by Boris Johnson despite warnings by the Security Services

Working behind the bar in the late eighties one lunchtime the conversation ended up on politics A old boy who was in his eighties suddenly piped up and said I’ve lived under liberal Tory and Labour governments And the working man’s always been better off under the Tory’s everyone looked at him And he stated they all promise you the earth and they all fuck you over but at least you know the Tory’s will so your braced and it hurts less

It is way over the top compared to other professionals.. and you know it is. I get your point re, the unions and, like footballers, if someone is daft enough to pay the train drivers that amount then you can't blame the train drivers for accepting. The country is on it's arse and everyone at the bottom needs a bit more of a helping hand. Train drivers dont need any more money. If they really do earn 69k then that is plenty.

Train driving became much better paid since privatisation. Train operating companies won franchises based on running more (typically shorter) trains, needing more drivers. Driver training is expensive and given franchises were typically for 7 years ,private companies found it cheaper to headhunt drivers from other companies. So it's supply and demand and why on earth should unions tell their members to earn less than they could just to benefit shareholders? Some argue that driver training should be fast-tracked, but there are safety implications . The report into the Peterborough overspeed incident details how a disaster was narrowly avoided.

Ah but that argument is apparently only valid when justifying the extortionate pay levels and bonuses of the merchant bankers.

If we are going to discuss the merits or otherwise of the salaries of Train Drivers it might be useful to quote accurate figures The £69K figure was a Bullshit number parroted by successive Conservative Ministers to justify their incompetence by not entering discussions which has cost the UK Economy at least £1Bn The average Train Driver earns considerably less with entry level salary of about £30K The salary and benefits packages for the role of a train driver usually depends on the company, alongside external factors such as length of service, location, and qualifications.
The average train driver salary in the UK is £48,500 per year. Train drivers can expect to begin with an average starting salary of £30,000, with the highest salaries often exceeding £65,000.
Train driver salaries can also differ between commercial or freight roles. The average freight train driver salary in the UK is £44,418.
The average train driver salary in London is £58,795, with experienced professionals in the region having salaries that often exceed £69,000, while train driver salaries in Scotland start at £38,194 for newly qualified drivers, rising to £48,360 after the probation period has ended. www.reed.com/articles/train-driver-salary-benefits

Most despised government ever, within a few weeks. It could be potentially Orwellian if what Jason James claims is happening was happening, it isn't. Operation Early Dawn is a procedure whereby suspects are held in Police Cells and do not proceed to Magistrate Court until a vacancy has opened up by a prisoner being released in case they may be sentenced to prison. No prisoners are released early It was last used by the Conservative Government in May due to the chronic capacity issues in Prisons System by failure to build new capacity

I think the people at the top have taken the piss for too long and the gap between the rich and the poor needs reducing quite drastically. Something radical needs to happen. I would give anyone who earns under 30k a 20% pay increase. 30-50k a 15% increase. 60-75k a 10% increase and 75-100k a 5% increase. Anyone in the public sector earning more than 150k gets a 10% cut. CEO's get their salaries halved and bonuses are capped at 15% and only paid out 3 years after they have left the company. Any fucker who misbehaves in public office automatically loses half their pension (not fair to penalise their spouse if they have one). Only problem is by increasing the pay of the lower earners there is a chance you make small to medium enterprises significantly less competitive overseas...but Brexit knackered that anyway. Not sure if any of this would cause a stir in the markets, or startle inflation but it makes me happy. Oh, and everyone who sells their house pays 50% CGT. No exceptions, no trying to avoid it through exploiting loopholes. Make Amazon etc pay tax on the profits they make in the UK. If they don't like it close them down and let a UK entrepreneur take over their operations. That would be my 90 day promise to the electorate once I am sworn in as PM!
